At 12:05 President John stepped forward to strike our Rotary Bell to call us to feet to start today’s Rotary Club program. It was both a beautiful day both indoors and outdoors. Great music indoors provided by pianist, Susan, and likewise great weather outdoors for all of us to enjoy.
David Hartman provided us with a wonderful prayer today, as he always does. Arnold Oliver had a story to tell us about a boy, his bike and a man with a lawn mower. I was not sure what this had to do with the Pledge and Song today. Thanks anyway Oliver for the humor you provided. After the Pledge, Oliver led us in singing, “Smile, Sing A Song”. We did not celebrate any Rotarian's birthday today.
President John was back to the podium to make a wonderful announcement our Club financial contribution had well surpassed it goal and that over $23,000.00 had been pledged. Way to go Rotary – giving back to others.
John asks Cara Sauceda to come forward to make a Youth of the Year Presentation. Cara introduced Ke’lecia Peterson as this year’s Youth of the Year. Congratulation Ke’lecia for your hard work you have shown in the past.
Benay made several Paul Harris presentations. Those that received this outstanding recognition were:
Carrie Spencer, David Spencer’s wife was awarded a PHF +2 pin
Scotty Coppage was made a Paul Harris Fellow by his dad, Walter Coppage
Treston Teague was presented a Paul Harris Fellow.
Thank to each one of you that have contributions to make these Paul Harris presentations possible.
Josh Phillips introduced our program today – Solomon Orr, MSU Fellowship of Christian Athletes Director. Solomon has been involved with sports for many years playing football in high school, college and professional in both NFL and AFL. He told us that the vision of the CFA was “To see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes”. The Mission of CFA was “To lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church”.
He introduced two MSU students, members of AFC, who spoke about their association with this organization on the MSU campus. One of the students was an athlete and the other was not. Both told that this was an outstanding Christian campus organization that has been very beneficial to them. Thank you, Solomon, for this very interesting program regarding the work that the CFA is doing with athletes at MSU and in our area.
We then rose to adjourn today meeting at 12:47 and repeated the Rotary 4 Wat Test.
