Our own ever so reverent Dr. David Hartman once again delivered a timely prayer for all of us members and all of our many guests. We enjoyed the music by Ms. Susan Cusenbary. Stacie and her beautiful voice lead us in “America the Beautiful”.
Mr. David Hartman also introduced his guest. The meeting was also attended by some of the past recipients of the great honor of Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Such as; Roby “HHH” Christie, Mr. Glenn “Top Cop, ex officio Mayor, SMAC” Barham, Ms. Nancy “ever so gorgeous” Brown, Mr. Howard “MSU/LSU” Farrell, and Mr. Jim “Retired Train Engineer” Hughes.
The Sunshine report was Mr. Bob “Civil War General” Hampton has returned from his knee surgery, Walter and his wife is having about with COVID time out. Stacie “the Voice” Cook’s son suffered a concussion in a soccer game is on the mend.
Stacie introduces the committee chairman, Carol “Mrs. Coffee” Murray, and her committee, who is in charge of finding the fabulous citizens for the “Citizen of the Year” nominees which was evident today. Carol introduced Mr. David “sore knees” Hartman, giving one more chance at the podium.
Dr. Hartman read a story of a man who many of us has known over many years in Wichita Falls. This man is a hero to us all. His story began in Ranger Texas. His deep roots for helping, and serving others was instilled in him by his grandmother at a young age. Then by his brothers and sisters and his athletic capabilities in his teen years by playing team and individual sports as baseball, basketball, football, and boxing. Then in 1968 he was asked to serve his country and did so very proudly and reverently. After returning home and bringing the memories of the dirty deeds of wartime, the body trying to forget the nightmares turning to different substances and then finding the truth in the way of the loving Lord was able to turn his life around and has helped many returning home soldiers to be welcomed back in the community and home life for awaiting families. He is known for being an advocate for veterans and their rights. He is the epitome of those who have served this great nation with pride and honor.
It was a heart-felt honor to recognize the Rotary Club Outstanding Citizen of the Year. Mr. Joel Jimenez.
Mr. Joel “Hero” Jimenez, of which I personally have know for well over 20 years is a well-deserved recipient of this award showing the criteria of sincere conduct, impact sustainability, honest goodness tendencies, and love of county. Joel definitely holds these traits in his heart. A vase was presented along with a plaque for him to proudly display at his choosing.
The meeting ended with the four-way test.
