President John Mayfield rang the bell to start the meeting at 12:05PM. He then invited Dave Hartman to lead the invocation, followed by the pledge and song, “Sweet Caroline,” led by Cara Sauceda.
We had two guests attending the meeting: Sara Sorge and Sam Park. Sara was a guest of her uncle Alan Donaldson and Sam was a guest of David Kelley.
At the meeting we had the pleasure of wishing Mike Saville a Happy Birthday and since it was actually the date of his birth, we sang Happy Birthday to him.
President John let us know that the Board had voted to donate around $28,000 to various organizations and that the club will be distributing checks over the next few meetings. The Board also approved a new corporate membership and there will be more details in the near future in regards on how the membership will work.
Carol Murray also announced that it is that time for Outstanding Citizen applications. She left a list of the previous winners as well as the applications on the table. If you have any questions seek out Carol.
Today the Brag Bucket was very lucrative. We collected money from Dave Hartman, Steve Priester, Josh Phillips, Stacie Cook, John Mayfield, and Noel Filer. Dave bragged on Tina and the new High Schools. Steve shared that his grandson had given him an authentic signed photo of Ted Williams. Josh as bragged on the new schools and reminded the club of the Legacy Ribbon cutting later that evening. Stacie bragged on her son Andrew and his cross country skills.
John bragged that his daughter Savanna will be the youngest DG store manager opening a new store in town. Noel bragged that it is Hotter N Hell weekend, that her granddaughter Lucy can count to 10, and that our guest Sara was engaged to her nephew.
The member spotlight featured Monica Horton. She gave us a history of her life and how she ended up with the BBB.
Josh Phillips then introduced our program titled “Stop the Bleed,” which was presented by Laura Pressler. Laura is a RN and United Regional and she provides certifications in the community that we were able to participate in today. Uncontrolled bleeding can result in death but should be preventable with the correct steps. In Wichita Falls, the average 911 response time is approximately 9 minutes. It only takes 3 minutes to bleed out resulting in death. In an emergency situation your safety is priority, make sure the scene is safe, move the victim to safety, and wear gloves. When it comes to stopping the bleed pressure is key and it is important to follow the ABCs. A-alert 911, B-find the source of bleeding, C-Compress. When alerting 911, stay calm and stay on the phone until help arrives. As for instructions as needed. When looking for the source of the blood is it continuous, is there a large volume, or are the multiple injuries. When applying pressure direct pressure at the source is important. Pack with gaze if deep and use a tourniquet on the peripheral limbs and tighten until the bleeding stops. Laura will be providing certificates to everyone in the audience today for completing the Stop the Bleed Course.
The meeting ended with President John presenting the speaker's gift and leading the club in the Four-Way Test.
