The Eastland Rotary Club hosted the District Governor, Jim Giffin at the Lakeside Country Club for lunch on Thursday, August the 8th. Bryan Jackson started by introducing our guests and giving us an update on the upcoming 3rd grader "Dictionary Project." Rotarians will be giving each student of the Siebert Elementary with their very own dictionary. Bryan Jackson and Jim Giffin then awarded Jenny Coffee with a very special award for her service as president of the Eastland Rotary Club 2012-2013. Bryan and Jim then awarded two Paul Harris Fellowship awards in acknowledgement of donations to Rotary International.

The District Governor spoke with the club about Rotary International and their progress at eradicating polio. We are so close, but the real work is keeping the resources available for new cases. Jim Giffin explained that thanks to Rotarians when 4 cases suddenly appeared in the Sudan, within two weeks, the strain had been identified and 500,000 children and adults have been vaccinated. The Rotarians from the Eastland club awarded Jim an "Old Rip" Eastland Rotary banner, and gave him a standing ovation for his service.
