Estes Park High School Jazz Band Performs April 24
The Estes Park High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Chuck Varilek, will play at the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Estes Park on Thursday, April 24. Since the September flood, this will be noon Rotary’s first meeting back in the Park Village Theater, which is located adjacent to the Other Side Restaurant.
Mr. Varilek is the director of all the high school and middle school bands. Under his direction, the bands continue to win awards and place highly in state competitions. In addition to school events, the bands have entertained at various community programs. Most recently, the EPHS Jazz Band participated in the Rotary Cub sponsored "It's Showtime," a program to raise money for high school scholarships.
The selections in Thursday's program are chosen to demonstrate the high degree of professionalism and accomplishment in the musical training and studies of our high school musicians.
In addition to working with students, Mr. Varilek has been very active in the Estes Park community directing local music groups such as The Estes Park Village Band and the Estes Park Jazz Big Band. These bands have been providing entertainment for the community for many years. Also, he is well known for his participation as a member of the dance band "The Kings Of Swing."
Thor "Big Duck" Homme and his committee are ready to welcome the community to this year's Estes Park Duck Race on May 3. Have you adopted your feathered friend yet? Your donation helps our community - and gives you a chance to win one of hundreds of prizes!
Adoption forms are available at our noon meetings or from any of the 62 beneficiaries.
Remember that by circling #1, your donation will benefit the Estes Park Rotary Foundation and will support our Community Grants Program.
Volunteers are needed for Race Day. See Thor for details. Help Estes Valley recover, show your Mountain Strong Spirit, and be a part of the area's biggest fundraiser.

Rotary Quote of the Week
"For the past decade, Rotary's membership has lingered around 1.2 million. That means for every person who joined in the last 10 years, another person left. Today's numbers show Rotary is not only stagnant but in decline in many areas. Our membership total as of 1 July 2013 was 1, 185,000 - the lowest figure in almost a decade. What are we doing about it?"
