President, Mary Parr opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Dave Renninger presented the invocation.

PROGRAM:

Maria Ferrara who was presenting the program along with Dave Renninger shared for the good thing happening for her this week, that she is going to be with her niece and nephew for a couple of days.  All three of her siblings will be together, too which is a real bonus.

The program, which was titled “From Our Club to Global Impact” was the first step in our club's money-raising efforts for the months of October and November in support of The Rotary Foundation. The International Foundation was begun in 1917 and coordinates the Global Initiative of the worldwide organization.  It manages international programming based on the seven areas of focus which are:  Peacebuilding, Disease Prevention, Water, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Community Economic Development, and Protection of the Environment.  Over 90% of our donations to the Foundation, go to direct service.  Two of the key programs are the Polio Plus campaign and Peacebuilding workshops that train people all all over the world to become peace scholars,

Our club foundation helps fund service grants with more of a local input and may work in tandem with the cluster and district.  Our club can identify needs and then submits these thoughts to our own foundation or applies for a district grant to put the plans into action.  When our club sees a need for a grant they might cooperate with local partners, and then with the help of our grant committee apply through the designated process. There are certain criteria of our financial donations to the International Foundation that the club must meet in order to apply for grants of up to $2500.This is one of the ways that our donations to the Rotary International Foundation might come back to us.  Last year19 clubs from our district applied for the grants.

Last year our club raised almost $18,000 with 60% of our members making a donation with a membership of 55 people.  We have 10 members who automatically give $1000 annually.  Now we have 61 members and the goal for this year is $19,500.  Our club's campaign will run through the end of November.  Members can donate on line, by phone or by check made payable to The Rotary Foundation.  Newer members can talk with Dave Renninger or Maria Ferrara about how to donate or even how to set up a monthly automatic donation.  Donations to The Rotary Foundation turn goodwill into lasting change.

Individual recognition of donations come through Paul Harris Fellows awards.  We will be hearing more about that during the time of our campaign, but know that for a cumulative gift of $1000, you will be recognized as a Paul Harris awardee.

Mary Parr added information from the boards of our club and foundation that have been meeting to decide the future of our club's foundation.  It was agreed that we would keep our club's foundation and go in some more formal directions to secure that fund and guide its management so that we could increase its benefit.

Reverse Raffle/Silent Auction: The October 14 date is coming quickly.  There are several things that need to happen right away to make the event a success.

  1.  If you have a ticket out and have not paid, get that to Dick Hall now!  along with the names that go with that ticket.
  2. If you and a particular group wants to be seated together, get that to Andy Denton at dentontaz@aol.com.  Please use names instead of just the word guest so that when they check in and say who they are, they are listed by name and not as someone's guest.
  3. Gail Moseley needs to know if you are providing a basket or items for a Silent Auction basket.  Get the items to her so that the bid sheets can be made or at least let her know what you will have in the basket by emailing her at gmoselely1973@yahoo.com.    If you want to give her money to use to purchase items that is fine.
  4. When the committee met last Monday, it appears that everything is going well.  Thanks to everyone who has taken their responsibility seriously.  It should be a great evening.
  5. Each ticket comes with 2 drink tickets. Those are for alcoholic beverages.  Non-alcoholic beverages are part of the meal cost.  So if you turn in a ticket for a non-alcoholic beverage, we pay the alcoholic drink price for that ticket .and that cuts into our profits

Football Pool: Club members who won in the pool this week are Denise Green (2 times) and Aimee Budnik. Congratulations!

Emergency Response Team:  Bob Oborn went over the plans for the emergency response session that will be held this Friday at the Senior Center from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Rotarians should be there at 8:45.  They will have a chance to talk about Rotary and then will be registering seniors who want to be contacted in the event of a lengthy power outage.  Bob also explained that in October, Mike Dunton will give an lengthier explanation of how the process works and will ask for more volunteers.

Drawing: Gail Moseley's table had the winning ticket but she drew the 6 of spades so the pot will continue to grow.

Bulldog Bags: By October 14 the following items are needed:  cereal cups, juice pouches, toothpaste and tooth brushes.  Either bring your donations to a meeting and give them to Andy Denton or drop them off in the Bulldog Bag container in the lobby of City Hall.
