President, Annette Oborn opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Program Host, Dave Renninger followed with the invocation.
Annette thanked Sgt. at Arms, Steve Dunton, and Dave Renninger for checking us in and then welcomed our visitors: Colin Martau, Bri Johnson, Zach Chuey, Will Sumser, Kari Suhadolnik and our speaker, Rob Senderoff.
HAPPY BUCK: Maria Ferrara ran to the meeting this morning as part of her training for the Akron Half Marathon. She then told us that her Mom joined the Mayfield Rotary Club last week and also that she survived having her COVID booster on Monday.
CELEBRATION:
Wedding Anniversary: Pat Messmore and his wife, Nancy, will celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary next Tuesday.
SAD NEWS: After the meeting I received a call from Christina Young to say that former Rotarian, Jerry Young, passed away during the night. Arrangements are incomplete at this point but she wanted his friends in Rotary to know. Christina's address is: 804 Shannondale Way, Apt.121, Maryville, TN 37803.
DRAWING: Dick Hall's table had the winning number but Bri Johnson drew the 7 of hearts, so the pot will continue to grow.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Reverse Raffle/Silent Auction: Chairperson, Gail Moseley reports that there are only four tickets left. Thanks to all who purchased them! There is a sign-up sheet for volunteers for that evening next to the badges. Next week is the time to bring wine bottles, gift cards or cash to purchase basket items, so that the committee has time to plan and knows what they have to work with. Many exciting silent auction items are part of the event. If you would like a ticket, or plan to donate a basket, contact Gail now at 330-907-4241. Also, if there is a group you plan to sit with, let Andy Denton know by e-mail at dentontaz@aol.com. As soon as your stub is returned to Gail along with payment, your seating can be assigned.
Football Pool: Pat Messmore reported the winners of the Football Pool for Week Three. The only club members to win this week were: Dick Hall and Tony Malorni. The complete list of winners is attached to these minutes.
Facebook: Although Annie Hanson-Hilaire is on jury duty this week, and therefore not with us, Annette expressed appreciation for the great job she is doing on Facebook and said that the football pool winners were displayed there.
Foodbank: Mary Dula reminded us that our volunteer time is 4:30-6:30 next Wednesday at the Foodbank. October will also be the fourth Wednesday, but after that our time will move to the second Wednesday.
Collection for Marv Mills: Annette said that she will be taking contributions for a bench in memory of Marv, through the end of the month.
Club Interact: Advisor, Dinah Henderson introduced teacher, Colin Martau who is Dinah's co-advisor for the club. She also introduced Bri Johnson who is one of the vice-presidents of the club and in charge of the Teachers' Supply Closet. She said that they have already filled 72 orders for the teachers in the district. The donations are available due to the Stuff the Bus campaign last summer and because of people like Linda Trevorrow who donated a large amount of items from her office. Rotary members delivered those orders to the middle and elementary schools of the district last Wednesday. Dinah reported that at their first meeting last week, they had 50 new freshmen who came to learn about the club. They will be creating a homecoming float for next Friday. After the parade, visit Interact's other project, the alumni tent. They helped the Lions Club with Pawfest last weekend. Already they are busy.
Bulldog Bags: By October 11, Bulldog Bags would like to receive the following items from us: juice boxes. mac and cheese cups, bars of soap, 32 oz. boxes of pancake mix and 24 oz.bottles of pancake syrup and peanut butter. Items can be brought to a meeting, dropped off in the lobby of City Hall or at the library.
PROGRAM:
Host Dave Renninger first introduced Zach Chuey from Kent State who has information about KSU Tickets for this year's basketball season. Dave then told us about Rob Senderoff and his great accomplishments. He is beginning his 13th year at Kent State and along with winning the MAC Championship had a 15-3 record last year. Right now he is leading a 22 game win streak at home which is the second longest home streak in the country. UCLA has 27 consecutive wins at home. He has lived in Stow for 15 years.
A concern for this year is that 3 of his leading scorers graduated last year. Before the season even starts, the team knows that they will run on the "big blue track". Their performance there shows the coach right away if that have been conditioning during the summer. They can be found on the track every morning this week with practice starting next Monday.
One of the things that he is most proud of is that over his 12 years, 44 out of 45 seniors graduated and 32 of those are first generation college students. When asked how and why this happened, he explained that part of their recruiting is to seek students who care about academics. When they are on the road, they have study hall, and take a team teacher with them. Students can be found studying even on the bus. Thirteen members of the team are on scholarship and all are expected to keep up with their studies.

As the program concluded, a drawing was held for a KSU shirt. Mary Parr was the happy winner. After that Annette led the club in reciting the Four-Way-Tet.
