Thank you to our speaker last week, Mark Gerberich, President and CEO of the International Soap Box Derby.  Prior to that he was with the pro bowlers tour for 18 years.

He explained that the goal of the Derby is to create leadership through competition; while at the same time giving back to the community.  For the first 75 years of the Derby, only registered racers were allowed down the track.  By contrast last year there were 80 event days at the track.  Along with races, they hosted concerts and even a Halloween Party for 10,000 attendees.  School teams now compete with their racers and there has even been Senior Day bringing out about 550 people.  There is also a Veterans' Appreciation Day.  To keep up with all of the activities at the Derby, go to www.soapboxderby.org.
