After President Linda Trevorrow opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance, Don Coughlin, our program host, used an Irish Blessing to present our invocation.

Annie Hanson Hilaire introduced us to her daughter Elizabeth ( Lizzie) who will be four weeks old tomorrow. She was presented to us with a big pink bow in her hair.
Annie also said that she has raffle tickets for a Lottery Tree Raffle will be held on Oct. 3 to benefit Project Grad in Akron, Tickets are $5 each or six for $25.00. Contact Annie at

Marty Tass said that he weeded our Adopt-A-Spot last week and in about 25 minutes he was able to get every weed out. Of course with Monday's rain, they will grow again. He says to be sure to look for weeds under the flowers when you have 20 minutes to spare to keep it looking nice.
Marty also said that he has tickets for the Stow-Munroe Falls Community Foundation's Beer Fest which will be held on October 3 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Heritage Barn. You will be able to choose from among 30 beers from 6 brewerys and there will also be packaged food and snacks. Tickets are $40. Contact Marty at marty@hkbent.com if you would like a ticket.
Mary Dula thanked Marissa Williams for her help in establishing a system to organize the food bank attendance.
Carrie Leising said that her daughter, Keeley has taken another big step in coaching with the receipt of her "D" Coaching license through the U.S. Soccer organization. She is a coach at Kent Roosevelt now and they tied their first game last night.

Board Meeting: We will have our Board Meeting by Zoom this Friday, September 11 at 7:15 a.m. Board members are expected to attend but if anyone else is interested in attending, let Linda know so that she can give you the link. Breakfast Money Donations: We need your ideas for the third recipient of our breakfast money for September. Bulldog Bags and the Akron-Canton Foodbank will receive 2/3 of the money. Let Linda know of your ideas at her e-mail in the above paragraph.
Literacy Month: We would usually distribute dictionaries to third graders this month, but that project has been put on hold for now.
Landscaping Project: Mayor Pribonic would appreciate it if a few of us could help with a project this Sunday afternoon from about 1:00-4:00. He will be working with youth and would appreciate the help of three or four adults. Contact him to volunteer or for more information at pribonic_john@yahoo.com.
Reverse Raffle: Bob Oborn reported that there are only about 40 tickets left for the Nov. 7 virtual event. A special thanks to Dick Hall for selling 50 tickets! We need gift cards with at least a $20 value to be given away as every 10th ticket is drawn. The cards will be in an unlabled, sealed envelope to go to the winner. Tickets for the event are $100. You may mail gift cards to Annette Oborn, at 381 Silver Valley Blvd., Munroe Falls, Oh 44262. This is our main fundraiser for the year!
Foodbank: Mary Dula reported that our next date for the Foodbank will be on Wednesday, October 7 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Call Mary at 330-715-6358 if you are able to volunteer. This month we can have up to 7 volunteers. The Foodbank apologized for the mix-up when our volunteers arrived last week and found a note on the door that said they were closed.
Teacher Supply Closet: Carrie Leising explained that the campaign is about 1/2 over and the donations are at about 1/2 of the goal. Watch for another announcement about the project very soon on Facebook and share it with everyone in your contacts list to maximize the publicity.
PROGRAM: Don explained that his happiness is being spread by he and Ellen donating food to the Good Samaritan Hunger Center in Akron. They hope to make a difference during this Covid 19 time.
Don then introduced our speaker, Arthur Brite who is a nationally recognized, motivational speaker and author. Mr. Brite was in sales for 37 years and feels that success is all about building relationships, the key being to treat others as you would want to be treated. He explained to the club that when respect and trust are added together, good relationships result. Integrity, honesty and humanity are what people want in both their personal live and in business. He emphasized hiring the person and not the resume. Businesses can always train and develop the right person.
There are five things that people want in a leader: genuinness, a passion for what you do, connectivity, inspiration and vision. Leadership should inspire fun in the workplace but not at the expense of others. There should be no off color jokes, disparaging or disrespectful comments. He ended with the four "C's" for success. They are: commitment, communication, connection and creativity. These establish an atmosphere where people matter and provide each individual a level of confidence and control.
