PROGRAM
Carrie Malotte, Program Host, introduced our speaker, Terese McGroarty, Franchise Consultant at FranNet of Northern Ohio. Her expertise is in franchise business ownership.  She and her husband began with three Shell franchises when they were only 21. Now  they have 30 years of experience in the field, have been married for 45 years and have 5 adult children.  She has received the award of "Exciting Broker On The Move".   FranNet has over 100 consultants across the United States whose goal is to educate prospects on business ownership.  Her consultation is 100% free until the individual purchases a business. She then gets a consulting fee.

Some of the demographics that are growing are residential home repairs, automotive, sign companies, business coaching, tutoring and home cleaning.  They try to focus on things that are "Amazon proof".  She said that an advantage to starting your own business is that you get to make all the decisions and a disadvantage is that you get to make all the decisions. If someone is thinking about buying a franchise it is very important to find out why the current owner is selling.  There are over 4000 franchise companies.

When you are part of the franchise system, you are in business for yourself but not by yourself, because of the franchise company that is over the franchise.  They basically are looking for people who can manage both people and money.  When looking to franchise, some people are looking for something new and exciting while others want to be associated with companies who have a long-standing history.

If you are interested in more information she recommended the book "More Than French Fries". You can also contact Terese at 216-598-7580 or tmcgroarty@frannet.com.
