President Gail Moseley opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance this morning, followed by Carrie Leising leading us in an invocation.

Gail thanked Steve Dunton and Dave Renninger for getting everyone checked in this morning and welcomed our visitors, Ken Fanger, Dee Dee Mulligan and Tony Malorni.

CELEBRATIONS:
Wedding Anniversary:  Pat Messmore and his wife Nancy will celebrate 30 years of marriage on Monday.

Birthday:  Maria Ferrara led us in singing Happy Birthday to Mary Parr who was with us virtually this morning.

50/50 Drawing:  Rich Bedell's table had the winning ticket but drew the 5 of diamonds.

Concern:  Mary Dula will have surgery tomorrow so send good thoughts and prayers her way.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Historical Society:  Volunteers are needed by the Historical Society for their festival this weekend.  If you can share some time either Saturday or Sunday, please let Gail or Annette know.  The time both days is 10:00-4:00.

Reverse Raffle/Silent Auction:  Bob Oborn praised the club that there are only 15 tickets left out of the 150.  Great job Rotarians.  No everyone needs to get their money turned back in.  Bob needs some people to take on a couple of jobs the evening of the raffle.  If you can work the side boards, help on stage or be the announcer, please contact Bob at boborn@kentelastomer.com.

Once you have paid for your ticket, make sure Andy Denton knows of any group that wants to be seated together so that she and Karen Monbeck can work out the seating.

Silent Auction: Annette Oborn showed a beautiful pair of diamond earrings that ticket-holders will have a chance to win at the Oct. 12 event.  She also told us that in addition to the other things already mentioned, that there will be a theater basket, and a pie of the month.  If you can donate lottery tickets, gift cards, cash or wine more prizes will magically show up.  Bring your donations to Annette at next week's meeting.  If you are donating cash, bring it next week for sure so that there is time to shop and put he items together.

"Tootsie" Fifth Friday Event:  Since November has a fifth Wednesday, we will not meet in the morning but instead will welcome Rotarians and their friends and family to the play "Tootsie" which will be at E.J. Thomas Hall that evening.  Tickets are only $15 but Gail Moseley needs to have your check, made out to her, by the first week in October.  Sign up as you sign in and she will reserve your tickets.

Our Goodwill Project:  Instead of doing the Shoebox Project this year we are sending that money to the Akron Canton Foodbank, since the last group of shoeboxes are still on a cargo ship waiting to be delivered.  If anyone is wanting to add to that donation, bring checks made out to The Stow-Munroe Falls Rotary Foundation and give them to Annette next week.  Your gift will be added to the total from the club.

Foodbank:  Our next volunteer time will be Wednesday, October 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Foodbank.  We especially need more volunteers since there is not a bus driver available who can take the Interact members to the Foodbank.  This is a good chance to sign up a friend or a family member.  Sign up as you sign in.

Salvation Army:  Mary Dula says that we should have the final word before long that we will be able to ring bells this year inside of Acme.  If all goes well, we should be able to start ringing the Saturday after Thanksgiving and cover shifts from 9:00-3:00 on the weekend days we ring.

Interaction:  Note that this is a change in date!!!!!  November 19 is the new date for Interaction, the district-wide gathering of Interact students.  It will be held at Stow High School from noon until 4:30. Rotarians will be needed to volunteer at the event and help to welcome the students and their advisors.

Benches:  Elevenof the recycled benches have been ordered.  Six will be located in Stow and five in Munroe Falls.  Collecting lids will be an ongoing project so that the club can contract for more benches as the communities need them.

Football Pool Winners:   Those who won in the Football Pool this week were:  Jeffrey Grater, Christine Sheives, Sandy Christman, Mary Egan, Trevor Gummere, Ron Matis, Nick Wren and Melissa Gates.  If you sold a book to one of these people, be sure to congratulate them.  Amazingly no actual Rotarians from our club won this week.  We just specialize in making people happy they bought football books!

Bulldog Bags:  Current needed items need to be delivered to the lobby of City Hall or to the Library by October 12.  Those items are:  juice boxes, macaroni and cheese cups, bars of soap, 32 ounce boxes of pancake mix and 24 ounce bottles of syrup.

PROGRAM:  Carrie Leising introduced our speaker, Ken Fanger, President of On Technology Partners and is a CMMC-RP (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Registered Practitioner) with more than 30 years experience in cybersecurity and information technology.  He is the author of RELAX:  A True Guide to Cyber Security.

Ken talked with us about our natural reactions when we are hacked or we fall for a scamming scheme.  He said it is natural to feel violated, angry and even stupid.  One way to try to counter this is to utilize two factor authentication, which is using two steps to sign in.  It can feel like a nuisance but can save us a lot of trouble in the long run.

He said it is okay to make mistakes, but that if we take three steps in managing a computer crisis, it won't have such a devastating effect on us.  We should first of all relax, knowing that as humans we all make mistakes. Second, we should evaluate.  Take a deep breath before we react and decide if what is being asked makes sense.  And when those two are done, we should act, and not react.  Stop to think what is logical and see how to recover from the mistake.

Some particular tips and suggestions for addressing common schemes are as follow.    The IRS is not going to call and make threats or demands.  Their first contact will be by U.S. Mail.  Avoid the questions on Facebook that try to gather personal information such as the name of your childhood pet or address or school.  These are the kinds of things that are the questions for getting into accounts when you don't have your password.   If you get ransomware, don't pay it.  At that point you become a paying customer and you encourage other hackers.  Make sure you do back-ups.  Did you know that if you have Amazon Prime that you have free unlimited photo storage?  If you get an e-mail saying you are the victim of bank or credit card fraud, call the institution first before you respond. They will know if something is wrong with your accounts.
He suggests Last Pass, which is an app that is free for individual use.  It makes very complex passwords for your accounts and you only need on password to get in.  And finally, remember to Relax, Evaluate and then act.

The meeting ended with the recitation of the Rotary Four-Way Test.
