The event will be next Wednesday at Guy's Party Center, beginning at 6:30.  The committee can still use gift cards and offers to help that night.  We have a nice variety of Silent Auction items and of course the food and company are always great.

 

Please!!!!!!  If you still have ticket money outstanding, get it to Gail Moseley now.  Get your seating requests to Andy Denton at dentontaz@aol.com now.  We need names of people on your ticket so they can be directed to the correct table as they arrive. We will be finalizing this on Friday morning.   If you still need a ticket, contact Gail. She  has one left.  Remember that there is no morning meeting next Wednesday.   Thanks to everyone for all of their help in getting ready for this huge fundraiser!

 

Help for Interact:  Next Monday, Oct. 9 the students will be helping to set up for the Fall Book Sale at the SMF library and could use some help from Rotarians from 6:15 to 7:30.  Show up to help out if you can in the large conference room upstairs.  

 

Foodbank: Mary Dula reported that last week our volunteers bagged 4064 bags of crackers that had been mislabeled and could not be sold so were utilized by the Foodbank rather than be wasted.  Our next volunteer time is October 25.  After that we will start volunteering on the second Wednesday.  The need is still very great, so everyone's help is needed.

 

Bulldog Bags:  And speaking of need... Bulldog Bags needs these items from us by next Wednesday.  The items can be dropped off in the lobby of City Hall or at the library.  Please donate any of the following:  juice boxes, macaroni and cheese cups, bars of soap, 32 oz. boxes of pancake mix, 24 oz. bottles of pancake syrup and peanut butter.

 

Grief Care Gala:  Annette has invitations for a November 16 dinner at Silver lake Country Club which will honor the legacy of Bruce Redmon.  If you are interested, please see Annette.

Annette introduced us to Julie Brandle, District 6630 Governor.  Previously she was president of the Akron Rotary Club and has served in various capacities in Rotary including being on the  All Ohio PETS Committee and chairing the District Conference Committee. Professionally, she is president and a founder of Metis Construction Services, a female owned commercial general contractor, located in Kent.  She is a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and Bowling Green State University.  She has 30 years of experience in sales marketing and public relations.  Julie and her husband, Steve, live in Brimfield.

 

Julie believes that part of her talking tour of the various clubs needs to also be a listening tour, where she can learn what is important to the various members.  She feels that a highlight of her training for becoming president was being with 500 president- elects from all over the world.  At that session, the International President shared that he would encourage a great emphasis on mental health. She also feels that is one of her district priorities and congratulated our club for initiating the Cluster Project of working with N.A.M.I.  She also feels that a priority is women and girls' empowerment.  Her company has joined with Ohio Rotarians to collect and distribute hygiene products with the goal of eliminating the need to miss work or school due to the lack of products.  They also help to mentor girls to be successful.  A third interest of Julie's is the environment and helping others see what little things can be done by each of us to preserve the environment.  

 

Finally, Julie introduced us to  a zone project with Duncan Donuts where purple iced donuts will be available to celebrate World Donut Day and to benefit Rotary's goal of eliminating polio. The purple is because when a child receives the anti-polio drops, the child's pinkie fingernail is painted purple.  In an e-mail we all received this afternoon we learned that we need to order donuts on October 17 for pick-up on October 24.  Our area store is Duncan Donuts on Graham Rd.  See today's e-mail for more information.  Our own Elizabeth Eaken is in charge of this project.
