PROGRAM:  Carrie Leising introduced Beth Crano and Emmaleigh Welka from the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Both women have degrees in Criminal Justice.  Emmaliegh is involved in education about the topic and Beth specializes in investigation with the help of her dog, Diana who has been a part of 300 search warrants.

Their job is to identify, arrest and prosecute those who exploit children on line.  Generally the various platforms will submit cases that are cause for concern.  Based out of Cleveland, their center will get about 2,000 referrals per month.  The women talked about it is very important to have conversation with children and grandchildren about predators on the internet.  Any app or website where you communicate can make exploitation possible.  Predators will often report themselves to be someone else in order to establish a relationship, and then get the subject to send compromising photos or videos.  Kids get into situation and then they don't know how to get out of those predicaments.  It is so important to tell kids that if they get into one of those situations that they must tell a trusted adult who can help them get out of the problem.

Beth ended the presentation by showing how Diana does her job.  When she puts her vest on, she knows she will be working.  Beth took her to an area where she had hidden a cell phone and told her to look.  When she started barking, she new she had found something.  There is a chemical inside of electronics that the dog has been trained to smell.

Gail ended the meeting by leading us in the Four-Way Test.
