Author, DeDe Mulligan was our speaker this week and she talked to us about the process of writing and publishing a book.

The idea for her book, Safety In Numbers  was inspired by the Enron scandal and 911.  The span of the book is only 10 days and involves the work of a Chief Financial Officer of a company going through an audit.  Copies were available this morning for $10.00 and are on Amazon for $15.  She described that when she started to write, she knew the beginning of the book and how it would end, but the middle of the book still had to be created.

As she wrote, her goal was to write one page a day. As she finished her rough draft she hired an editor and also went to writing groups where samples of her book were available and she could receive feedback from the group.  She also hired a graphic designer to create a cover that would stand out.

For those in the club who may be interested in writing, she said the best thing is to start writing, but perhaps find a writers' club who could offer valuable feedback.
