PROGRAM:  Attorney Tom Loepp introduced Attorney Jason Jordan who is also a member of the Summit County Beekeepers' Association.  We were in for a fascinating presentation.

When packages of bees are purchased, it is in groups of 3-5.000.  They then live on a frame in a box where they make honeycomb on the frame.  One of the first things they do is designate a queen.
The queen bee's only job is to lay eggs.  She thrives on powdered sugar and honey.  The other bees take care of her.  When the bees need a new queen, that choose the egg that will be he next queen and take care of that egg until she can lay eggs..When they don't have a home to protect, they become very docile.  They will follow the queen.  Did you know that bees go into the hive when a storm is coming?  Honey is extracted twice a year, in the spring and in the fall after the goldenrod bloom.  That honey is then eaten or sold in places like the Stow Farmers' Market.  Did you know that if you see bees in the ground, you are probably looking at hornet

Bees can also be captured in swarms.  Scout bees scope out where to live next and then they very quickly make comb.  Candy boards help them prepare for winter and this then becomes their food during the winter.  They are truly amazing little creatures.

Annette adjourned the meeting by leading us in the Four-Way-Test
