ROTARY CLUB OF STOW MUNROE FALLS NEWSLETTER: May 21, 2014
Invocation: Mark Ferguson began our meeting with a meaningful invocation.
Guest Announcer: Dave Renninger was our guest announcer this morning. He thanked John Long for covering the Sgt. Duties this morning with the help of Tony Falcione. There were no fines.
Visitors: Soon to be Police Chief of Stow, Lt. Jeff Film was welcomed.

Rotary Anniversaries: None today
Wedding Anniversaries: Tom Loepp and his wife Dayna will be celebrating 23 years of marriage on the 26th.
Birthdays: Bonnie Housley led us in singing to Dave Renninger. Rick Archer also has a birthday this week but was not in attendance.
Happy Bucks: Lou Dirker told us that he will be retiring within the next couple of weeks. After a whole 3 days’ break, he will begin teaching at Kent State University. He introduced Lt. Jeff Film, who will become the new chief, to the club.
President Oborn’s Announcements
Bob welcomed Elizabeth Aiken as our newest member.
Bob commented on the success of Heroes’ Day last Saturday and appreciated all of the work by Rotarians of both Stow and Cuyahoga Falls and other friends in the community. Jacqui Bowman was the chair of the event and did an excellent job. Bonnie gave many special thank yous to people who assisted with the food and registration with special kudos to The Church in Silver Lake who shared their facilities with us. Bonnie and Karen Monbeck will chair the food and registration committee for next year’s event.
There are several upcoming dates in the near future.
Our date to pour beer at Rocking on the River is Friday, May 30th. We still need more people to join in to help at this fundraising opportunity. This is a good chance to allow your spouse to help!
Adopt-A-Spot Planting at City Hall will be on May 31st. If you can help, please sign up next week.
Our next date for service at the Akron-Canton Foodbank is June 4th from 5-7:00 p.m. If you haven’t signed up, let Dave know you are interested. If you have not signed up and can help, please contact Pat Messmore.
The Golf Outing is Friday, June 6th. Contact Mark Lucco or Jim Stewart if you can register your foursome or if you can help during the day. Get your donations to Dick Hall. The fun begins at 10:00a.m. with a shotgun start and ends with a steak dinner.
The Installation Banquet will be on Wednesday, June 18th at Sheraton Suites Library Room. 6:00-6:45 is a social time with a cash bar. The dinner and program will begin at 7:00. There is no morning meeting that day so that everyone can attend in the evening.
Speaker: Mark Ferguson introduced Kevin Coughlin who is the Clerk of Courts in Stow and also Chairs Lexington Companies which is a Public Affairs and Communication Firm. He was elected in 2013 to serve in the Stow position. He discussed changes that have already occurred and changes that are planned for the future. So far he has concentrated on improving the efficiency of his department particularly through personnel assignments, mailroom organization and making the website more user-friendly. The two biggest future projects will be working toward a more efficient case management system that would be a paperless system. Another goal will be to enhance collections. The system is for addressing warrants and collections can run more smoothly and benefit the clients of the system as well as attorneys, law enforcement and other court personnel. Although the new system will be expensive, it will save the courts money in the long run. It will be primarily paid for through a $13.00 technology fee charged to defendants. Once this system has been refined, judges will have screens in their courtrooms with the case information and then can enter the pertinent information about their decisions into the computer right in the courtroom.
