It was a great morning as the club showed their appreciation to Gail Moseley for her year as president of the club and then saw the installation of Annette Oborn as president for 2023-2024.
Gail opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and then Annette presented the invocation.
Visiting Rotarians, David Jones, Jim McKee, Rick Pollak and Beverly Ghent-Skrzynski and David were welcomed and Gail thanked Steve Dunton and Dave Renninger for getting everyone checked in.
CELEBRATIONS:
Wedding Anniversaries: Eric and Lauran Weber will celebrate 16 years if marriage on June 30 while Tom and Penny Loepp celebrate 6 years on July 2.
Birthday: Maria Ferrara led us in singing Happy Birthday to Jim Laber whose birthday was Monday.
Drawing: John Pribonic's table had the winning ticket but pulled the four of spades. The joker still has plenty of room to hide.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Foodbank: Our volunteer time is tonight from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Foodbank in Akron. We need as much help as possible because the Interact students to not attend in the summer.
July 3 Help: Carrie Malotte said that we still need volunteers for putting fliers together for distribution on the Fourth of July. If you can help, meet Dinah and the other volunteers at the high school from 10:00 a.m. until noon.
Adopt-A-Spot: Marty Tass said that our spot is looking good but that it will need to be weeded again after all of this rain. Let Marty know if you can weed, at 330-328-6028 if you can help.
PROGRAM:
Gail had already reflected on many of the club's accomplishments this past year when we had club assembly a couple of weeks ago. But, she again thanked everyone for such a successful year. You will find this morning's program attached to these minutes and as you read "2022-2023 In Review" you can feel appreciated for what has been accomplished this past year. Also look at the clever presentation around the Rotary logo above the list to see how what we have done is woven into the whole image of Rotary. Great job!
It was then time for Past District Governor, Beverly Ghent-Skrzynski to begin the installation of Annette Oborn as our next president.She talked about how Annette lives the Four-Way Test and will be a person who listens to and encourages the members, will be a conduit for concerns and will also lead us in having fun. She then asked Bob Oborn to present his wife with her president's pin. Gail Moseley presented her with the club's gavel as a way of transferring the leadership role. Then the officers of the club and the foundation were installed. Their names and roles are listed on the attached program.
As the new banner with this coming year's slogan "Creating Hope in the World" was hung on the podium. It recognized the leadership of incoming International President, R. Gordon McInally of Scotland, and Julie Brandle as District 6630's District Governor for the coming year.
Annette then thanked the members for all they do, recognized the visiting Rotarians and thanked them for coming. She then spoke about her vision for the club, much of which had been discussed in the Board Retreat which was held this past Monday evening.
Membership will be a top priority as we attempt to bring more people in to share in rewarding service. Plans are beginning to attract Interact parents, and speakers but also personal contacts. Her goal is to net five new members this year.
International Projects will be back on the agenda. We will purchase a Shelterbox and also will support efforts to build a peace center in West Africa. (Check the June 14 minutes where it was previously discusssed.) Wisdom Addo, leader of that project spoke at the district. He is a Rotary World Peace Fellow.
Locally, we will be part of our Cluster Project which will be working with NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) in helping to make housewarming baskets for people who have become well enough to go into their own residence. The Executive Director of NAMI will be our speaker in a few weeks. This project will blend with President McInally's emphasis on mental health.
As far as projects, we will continue what we are doing, while continually evaluating each. It has been suggested that we restart the project of reading with students locally who are part of English as a Second Language programs. The Fifth Wednesday plans for holding an evening social will continue with the exception of August where there is already a program scheduled. A summer social with the Rubber Ducks is still being explored.
Annette closed by saying; "It is your club." The Board will listen to ideas, projects and concerns of everyone.". She reminded us that next week we will not have a meeting but that we want to find ways to "Create Hope in the World". She then led us in the Four-Way Test.
