PRESIDENT: President Jim Callahan asked us to give him 3 facts about ourselves that others may not know. The mystery club member. He also gave us yellow cards to remind us of the 4 -Way Test. He also passed a clipboard around to have guest announcers sign up for August.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bob Oborn- August 7th Baseball Game Rubber Ducks, funds from Rotary will benefit Veterans suffering for PSTD. Please see him if interested.
Show Box Program - We have committed to donating 40 boxes to the Shoe Box Program going to “The Dump” in Nicaragua. Please take a box or 2 and fill them. Please have your box ready by 8/13. You can also sign up for a child, and have someone else shop for you. If you would like to write a check, its $30 to the club.
Mark Lucco - Final results from Golf Outing are in - Net income 10,065. The best year yet. That is about $1500 more than the past 2 years. He thanked the great sponsors, and more golfers than previous years. Great job to Mark and his crew.
Dave Renninger - Thank you for supporting the Food Bank, we will be going next Wednesday. It’s a great time. You will be very impressed. August 6th 5-7PM.
Annette Oborn- Officially our Treasurer and is on the account! So start writing her checks. Dues are $160 if you have not paid yet. She also mentioned that we are looking for silent auction items. Chirstina Gary and Annette are heading up that silent auction part of the event. The Reverse Raffle is on Wednesday, October 22nd.
Pat Messmore- Football books $20 each we have 27 left, please contact Pat Messmore to buy those up!
SPEAKER: Katie Wright - She is speaking today on Children’s Literacy. She shared with us some of her experiences in sharing books giving children in need of mental nourishment. She shared some statistics with us that were very interesting and surprising. In Ohio only 37.4% of our fourth graders read at their 4th grade proficiency level, the rest of them fall below. As they get older, only 31% of America’s eighth grade students are proficient. She points out that reading aloud to our children throughout life. Make them feel worthy, keep it an enjoyable bonding experience and they will continue to read. Keep reading. Keep books out. Turn the TV off, and put other things out for them to read, at the breakfast table. Keep books in the car. Books by the bedside. There’s a lot of things we are doing, and can continue doing.
