John Long did a great job of checking us in this morning with help from Carol Flask.  Thanks!

Linda Nahrstedt gave us some good food for thought with her invocation and then Linda Trevorrow took over as our announcer. She did a great job and even shared some accountant jokes.  Did you know that homeless accountants live in a tax shelter?

There were no fines this morning but Jim Laber was recognized for his 5 year Rotary anniversary.

Bruce Redmon had a Happy Buck explaining that his 26 year old granddaughter received a national marketing award which was presented to her at a convention in Arizona.

Mary Tass used a Happy Buck to encourage us to buy tickets to the library's Dessert Extravaganza.  It will be April 21 at Silver Lake and the tickets are $50.  See him for more details or to purchase a ticket.

We missed many people this morning and hope they are somewhere warm, but we were glad to welcome Brian Bachtel, our speaker and Ryan Rothkopf who was a guest of Rich Bedell.

The raffle pot is now at $620 but will continue to grow because the 8 of clubs was drawn this morning.

Announcements:
Our next volunteer night at the Foodbank is February 3rd from 5-7p.m.

Pat Messmore gave us some Foundation Information.  He recognized Rich Bedell for being a Paul Harris Fellow plus one.  He received a pin with a sapphire added.  Ron Taggart then was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow plus six.  He was honored with a pin containing a ruby.  Thanks so much to both of these Rotarians who recognize the value of service and of giving.  In order to become a Paul Harris Fellow, $1000 is donated to the Rotary Foundation and for each additional $1000, the donor moves up another level.

Pat encouraged us to sign up for an automatic donation to the Foundation at a minimum of $10.00 per month.  He has forms that can make that happen.  He also reported that the club donated $2650 last year and that many in our club have recognition points that are available for the purpose of honoring someone.
How much can we boost that level of giving for next year?   If more decided that we could give up $10.00 per month, it could make a huge difference in our level of funding.  Think seriously about it, please and contact Pat about your points or your giving.

Ron Taggart shared information from CAMO (Central American Medical Outreach, Inc.) thanking the club for our gift of $2000 toward ultrasound equipment.  The letter stated that in one clinic alone, they provided 2,635 prenatal ultrasounds to women at risk.  WOW!

Jim Callahan shared a view of senior life by Julie Andrews.  It was a light and humorous touch of reality.

If you are interested in running for the three open Board of Director positions, please let me know by the end of next week, so that we have that information for our Board Meeting on February 12.

Program:
Linda Nahrstedt introduced Brian Bachtel, a Kent Rotarian who is the Director of Career Tech Education at Kent Schools and is part of the Six District Compact which includes Stow-Munroe Falls, Hudson, Kent, Woodridge, Tallmadge and Cuyahoga Falls.

He explained that the Compact offers a total of 26 programs under Career Tech Education, the new term for Vocational Education.  Some of the programs he listed were:Athletic Healthcare Assistant, which can lead to almost any part of the medical field; Business and Sports Management, Computer Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Engineering Academy, Electronics Robotics and Landscaping/Forestry.  Many of these programs lead to post-secondary education of some type. Mr Bachtel explained the need for school counselors to understand the community's needs for individuals with specific training so they can give better direction to the students and their parents.

Thanks to Linda and to Dick Hall for interesting Vocational Month Programs!
