PROGRAM;
Gail Moseley began with her happiness moment saying that she is very glad for the coffee project and being happy to take part.
She then introduced David Shall from Hollywood, who has been a media executive for over 30 years but before that was a 1976 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School. He has worked with many shows with which we are familiar including "American Idol', "The Price is Right", "America's Got Talent" and "Family Feud", to name a few. He explained that Los Angeles reminds him of Akron. He grew up in the Akron area where it seemed that everyone worked for one of the rubber companies. Then the industry changed and it was not the same. In L.A. at one point it seemed that everyone was part of the movie/TV industry. That is changing now to a major focus on digital entertainment. He says we are in the golden age of TV right now but with the focus changing from cable to digital.
As he talked about the changes he focused on changes in the movie industry. That industry is focusing on remakes of older movies but especially on entities like HBO, Netflix and Showtime. He said that movie theaters are teetering on bankruptcy due to the COVID 19 epidemic. He predicts that if and when they do reopen that they will become more of an event. In addition to the comfortable seats, people will expect bar and food service as well as good movies.
JOKE: Eric Weber was in charge of today's joke. He shared with us first that his Dad, Marv Weber, a long-time member of our club would have celebrated his 91st birthday today.
His joke was about a 5th grader who decided to be a stripper instead of a teacher after going to school on zoom. Marv would be glad to share the punch line with you.
Next week Jennifer Coleman will be in charge of our joke.
Linda dismissed us by saying that this is a day that proves our democracy is alive and well and wished us a great week.
