CLUB ANNIVERSARY: Pat Messmore 12 years, Ron Maghes 2+ , ANNIVERSARIES: none BIRTHDAY: We sang to Annette Oborn as she was squeezed by Tony Falcione, and Pat Messmore. JOKE: About college football, in honor of signing day. Then we had a little typo and brought Lorie Shaffer up and we sang to her as well. TICKET: Andrea Denton drew the 3 of clubs.
PRESIDENT: Bonnie filled in for Jim Callahan and his second knee surgery is not as good as the first one however he's looking forward to being here back with us soon, keep him in your thoughts.
George Rooney: Past President of the Akron Club. Gave us a short Chili Open presentation its all about special kids, and Rotary Camp for Special Needs at Rex Lake. No-one is turned away due to lack of funds so this Saturday, its a day of golf, drinking beer and eating chili. So sign up at www.ChiliOpen.net There are many many prizes. HEROES DAY: Saturday May 16th Jacqui Bowman: I am in need of a few people to step up and give me a few right hands… One person to help with each of the following areas: Mulch contact organizer, flower contact and organizer, food menu organizer and captain, Misc supplies organizer, T-Shirt organizer, Donation letters and encouraging our members to gather outside donations. Heroes List & Candidate information for Heroes to be served this year, someone to oversee the budgeting (what is spent where) and document the process for this event for other clubs and future years. We still will need teams and team captains as well. Steven Dunton, Carrie Leising, Annette Oborn, Katee Wright, Ray Evans and Bonnie Housley. Please step up! INTRODUCTION of SPEAKER: Bob Sweitzer. Bernie Rochford from the Oriana House. He has served with Oriana House since 1985. He is a licensed attorney from University Of Akron Law School 1990. He is currently on the board of the Akron-Summit County Public Library, the First Friday Club of Akron, and The Akron Bar Association.
SPEAKER: Bernie talked to us about all the programs and services that Oriana provides. Oriana House is a nationally renowned substance abuse treatment & community corrections agency with facilities in Summit, Cuyahoga, Seneca, Sandusky, and Erie counties. As of now he mentioned that we have a serious opiate dependency epidemic shared with us some very interesting information about the drugs that are coming out to help these dependents. Offenders can easily be moved up and down the continuum adding or removing restrictions as necessary without interruption to programming.
