He welcomed Lorrie Shaffer, who has been recovering from a serious eye problem but is getting better.
Jim delivered the boxes for Nicaragua.  They will eventually go to Texas where a Rotarian with a container company will see that they are

Bob Oborn announced that the Helping our Neighbors program awarded 12, $500 grants to those who applied after
flooding damage earlier this year.  The group, made up of the various service clubs will hold fundraisers in the future
to prepare for such disasters ahead of time.  One will take place on September 26th.  Stay tuned for more information!
Annette Oborn reminded that dues are due now and should be given to her
Annette also asked us to let her know what to expect for donations to the Silent Auction which will be October 22nd this year.
There also will be a wine pull again this year, so she is looking for donations of 20 bottles of wine worth at least $10.00 each.
Marty Tass expressed appreciation for Ron Alexander’s many years of heading the Adopt-A-Spot site.  Now that he has had to resign from the club, Marty will take over that job next year.  In the meantime, anyone who can should stop by the spot to do some weeding
and then turn in a make-up for their time.  (After all of this rain, it should be a great time to weed!)
Dave Renninger asked people to sign up for the September 3rd date at the Akron Canton Foodbank.  We volunteer from 5:00- 7:00 p.m.  Dave has set a goal of having one new person each month.  It is a great experience to help!

Program:  Andy Denton introduced Melissa Clemens from Victim Assistance Program (VAP).  She is the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator and has a Masters Degree in Public Administration.  She is also a certified trainer in recognizing and working with victims of human trafficking.
Founded in 1972, VAP is a non-profit organization who assists all victims of crime, and those who experience sudden death, such as infant death or suicide.  They work with police departments throughout the county who notify them when their assistance is needed and then go to either the crime scene or hospitals to intervene.  When victims feel hopeless, they feel that they have lost control, so a main goal is to help individuals regain a sense of being in charge.  They let the victims know about their rights and then explain and walk them through the court process to the extent that their help is needed.  Trauma therapy is also an important asset to their programs they offer.  A trauma therapist offers her assistance with no billing, insurance or fee scales.  They assist about 6000 people per year through
their five locations and survive through donations and grants.
