After President, Annette Oborn opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence was observed to honor Rotarian, Bill Choler who passed away last Friday. De-de Mulligan, our Program Host led us in an Irish Blessing for the invocation.
Annette welcomed our guests from the Akron Art Museum, Director Jon A. Fiume and Christina Woodson, also from the museum. She also thanked Steve Dunton and Dave Renninger for getting us checked in this morning.
HAPPY BUCKS:
Dinah Henderson said that tomorrow her son, Parker, will graduate with his Masters' Degree in Anesthesiology and will begin working at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
Scott Miller said that his son, Alex,who works in Outpatient Sports Medicine has been appointed as a Clinical Instructor.

Birthdays: If you see Christine Faranda this week, be sure to wish her a happy birthday.
Drawing: Dave Christman pulled the joker this morning, so the pot will begin all over again.

Dues: John Long reminded us that dues are due now. For the next month, please either give your dues to Rich Bedell or mail them to the club's P.O. Box at P.O. Box 1352, Stow, OH 44224.
Football Books: Pat Messmore reminded us that the football books are here and only cost $20.00. Get yours before they sell out and before the season begins. You have a chance to win four times per game.
Rubber Ducks Game: Jeff Film said that 32 tickets have been purchased for the game on August 18. Cost is only $12.00 and this is the last call. Fireworks will be after the game. E-mail Jeff at jfilm706@gmail.com if you want tickets
Child Protection Training: Jeff said that this has been completed by almost all club members. Please contact him if you still need to complete the training and the quiz. His e-mail is above.
Adopt-A-Spot: Marty Tass says that the garden is doing well and asked for a couple more people willing to weed. Per usual, two people volunteered.
Reverse Raffle/Silent Auction: Gail Moseley has the tickets. They are the same price as last year, $125 per couple including dinner. Extra dinners are available for $40. We also need gift cards and Silent Auction items. See Gail for any of these.
Ronald McDonald House: Annette announced that the club will provide dinner to Ronald McDonald House this Friday, courtesy of Gioninos. Steve Dunton will deliver the chicken dinners.
Donations in memory of Bill Choler can be made to the club through next Wednesday. Checks should be made out to our Foundation.
Bill Choler's Service: Calling hours for Bill will be Sunday afternoon from 1:00-5:00 at Redmon's with the funeral service at St. Steven's Lutheran Church at 11:00 on Monday.
Board Meeting: Our board will meet this Friday, August 11 at 7:15 a.m. at City Hall. Minutes of the July meeting are attached to these minutes. Board members are expected to attend and others are welcome.
Rotary International President: There are several opportunities next week to meet Rotary International President Elect, Stephanie Urchick. See the attached flier for a complete list. Wendy Waskovich plans on attending the lunch on August 17 and would be glad to drive for anyone else who wants to go. Contact Wendy at 1-864-417-8663 if you are interested. And congratulations to Wendy for finally receiving all of her new member information.
Stuff the Bus: Dinah Henderson thanked everyone for their help with Stuff the Bus. Now there is one more job that needs to be done. If you can help sort, be at the high school at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Enter at the Commons doors and go to Room 119 across from the library. The job should only take an hour. Dinah reported that $2600 in cash was collected along with the many supplies.
Bulldog Bags: It is that time again when we need to start collecting for Bulldog Bags. Items needed from us by Sept. 13 include: Fruit cups, microwave pasta cups, toothpaste, toothbrushes, 24 or 32oz pasta sauce, 1# box of pasta, 18 oz.containers of strawberry or grape jelly. Bring the items to a meeting or drop them off in the lobby of City Hall.
PROGRAM: De-de Mulligan, Program Host, first talked about her Rotary involvement. She previously was a part of the Kent and Hudson clubs but really appreciates the energy of the Stow club.
She then introduced Jon A. Fiume, John S Knight Director and CEO at the Akron Art Museum. He has served on many boards, related to the arts, in our area and has been in his present position since 2022. His topic was: "The State of the Museum, Beginning Our Next Century of Service."
Their mission talks about inviting people to enrich their lives through modern and contemporary art, and they work hard to display artwork that reflects our Summit County community. Every gallery has a theme and guides are available to answer visitors' questions. In addition to the many displays, there are other opportunities to become acquainted with art, such as Coffee With a Curator; Learning and Engagement which invites every fourth grade student into the museum; Camp Creative Nature and their Creative Aging Institute which offer older adults classes on a variety of topics. Thursdays are free days, so you might use that to check out the museum.
