After President, Annie Hanson opened our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, Ron Taggart led us in a meaningful Thought for the Day.
Bob Oborn then took over as this morning's announcer. He welcomed Mary Dula as this morning's visitor after he thanked the Sergeant at Arms, Steve Dunton and his helper, Dave Renninger for welcoming us.
CELEBRATIONS:
There were no anniversaries or birthdays to celebrate this week.
Happy Buck: Carrie Leising shared with us that her daughter, Keeley, began her soccer season yesterday and she scored the first goal of the season for the team.
Drawing: Tom Loepp's table had the winning ticket but Rich Bedell drew the king of diamonds.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Dues: Annette Oborn reminded us that dues are due. Cost is $160 for a full year or $80.00 for 1/2 year. Please bring them to the meeting next week or mail them to our PO Box, 1352, Stow, OH 44224, payable to The Rotary Club of Stow Munroe Falls.
Shoeboxes: Bob Oborn reminded us that today is the day that the shoeboxes are due. If you have not turned yours in, please contact Bob at bobon@kentelastomer.com or Annette at aoborn@att.net to make arrangements to get the boxes turned in. All fifty of the boxes need to be delivered early next week, so the sooner the better. Bob thanked Annette for the 20 boxes that she packed with the money from the donations the club contributed.
Football Pool Books: Pat Messmore said that there are only 15 of the football pool books left. Those need to be sold, and people who have taken books, need to turn them in with their money.
Summer Sunset Blast: Annie circulated a sign-up sheet for 2-hour shifts at this event where we will be selling raffle tickets in order to buy another ShelterBox. She also circulated fliers (see attached) about the Community Leader Sleep Out which will also benefit the project. When you make a donation in the name of Jeff Film, Annie Hanson, John Pribonic or Amber Zibritosky, the person who receives the highest cumulative donation will spend the night in a ShelterBox tent. Membership: Annie explained that in order to make visitors feel more comfortable, they now will receive a yellow card with information about how our club works as well as some other information about the larger scope of Rotary. (See attached.) Visitors will also receive name tags and will be hosted by a table ambassador. Thanks to all who volunteered to fulfill that function.
Death: Annie announced the death of Harry Ruggles who has been our Veterans' Day speaker. He died at age 93 as a distinguished veteran of World War II. He received bronze and stars after the Battle of the Bulge and will be honored at a military funeral today.
Board Meeting: Annie reminded us that our Board Meeting will be this Friday at 7:15 a.m. at the Stow-Munroe Falls Library. Board members are expected to attend but others are welcome. Enter through the back door. (Minutes are attached)
