President Linda Trevorrow opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Dave Christman led us in an invocation about being the best that we can be. CELEBRATIONS: New Baby: Welcome to Elizabeth Ann Hilaire, the newest addition to our Rotary Family. She is the daughter of Rotarian, Annie Hanson Hilaire and Michael Hilaire and was born on August 13. Congratulations! Happy Bucks Dave Renninger told us that a new Director of the Stow-Munroe Falls Library has been selected. He will be introducing her to us in the very near future. Karen Monbeck shared that her daughter, Julie has a new position with the schools in Barberton as Curriculum Consultant and Literacy Liaison. Mary Dula said that her daughter's house in Cuyahoga Falls sold in 4 days. Annette Oborn shared that their son, Patrick, will be home this weekend celebrating 1 year of sobriety. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Linda told us that Rotary International has added Environment as a new focus area of Rotary. The Shoebox Project is wrapping up. Thanks to all who helped. Our Adopt-A-Spot is looking good. Please stop by and pull a few weeds when you can. The Board met last Friday. The minutes of that meeting are attached. We will participate in Stow's Clean-up Day on August 29. Shirts are available at City Hall or you may wear your Rotary work shirt. Look for more information from our Mayor. August Breakfast Money We will donate 1/3 of our money for August to Bulldog Bags and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. The other third will go to the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Band since they were unable to do their Tag Day this year. Send suggestions to Linda for the money for September. President Elect: We are in need of someone to fill this position NOW. There must be someone who is willing to take this office for the 2021-2022 year. PROGRAM: Dave Christman, Program Host, shared that his happiness for the week comes from mentoring and guiding the people who work for him. He then introduced Susan Lines of CBRE who has been a broker with that company since 2011, specializing in office and investment real estate. Susan talked with us about multi-tenant properties in the northeast Ohio area and results of tracking what is happening as far as that real estate. On their website, CBRE.com she explained that we could go to a section called The Weekly Take for information in podcast form for what is going on in both a local and global perspective. During this pandemic, investors are trying to figure out how to mitigate their losses. Retail is bouncing back well with July looking stronger than February. Logistics is a big winner as they move products around. Multi-family housing seems to be remaining strong and almost recession proof. Hotels are slow but demand will eventually return. Groceries are doing well as people eat at home more but restaurants are problematic and it is estimated that half will not recover. Malls may be repurposed and offices may be restructured as more people are working from home. They may be looking at productivity vs. efficiency. We appear to have a new attention to health and safety that is a positive effect of this pandemic. Things may look different a few years from now, However we have survived difficult times in the past and will recover from this although things may definitely change.
