PROGRAM: Before she introduced the speaker, Jennifer Coleman explained that her favorite Rotary moment has been working on Stuff The Bus, which she has done a few years. She introduced our speaker, Dr.Craig Banks, of Pinnacle Chiropractic and PinnacleMaxrecovery. Not only is he a chiropractor, but he is a wrestler, power lifter and body builder. He is the District Director of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association. Dr. Banks spoke specifically with us about posture. As a bonus, attached to these minutes is a way to download a free posture e-book. He explained to us that good posture is the body's ability to withstand trauma, particularly in our spinal area. It also helps us to breathe more deeply, increase movement and increase self-confidence. On the other hand, poor posture leads to a greater degree of fatigue, wear and tear on the body, decreased lymphatic flow, increased muscle tension and decreased athletic performance. He explained the importance of the 24 moveable back bones, the discs that act an shock absorbers and the jell the discs contain. Dr. Banks talked with us about postures for standing and sitting and gave us tools to use toward better posture. He explained the problem that the way most people look at their phones create for posture. We should be positioned so that our eyes look straight ahead at the phone without our heads being bent. When you are at the computer, your eyes also should be straight ahead. When sleeping, back sleeping is best, and a cervical pillow is excellent so that the head is not bent any more than necessary. He explained how necessary our arches are to our support. Ladies' high heels are terrible for the body. It is very important that we have some type of exercise each day and that we lose our bellies. Lying on our back and using a foam roller is a great tool for this. For more information on all of this, go to the e-book that is attached to these minutes.
