Immersive Technology Magic: How business can leverage the virtual world
Apr. 16, 2019
Bio: Bill started his career with Apple as a Business Specialist back in 2010 focusing on offering Apple-based technical products to companies. Since then, he has delivered technology solutions for big companies and international organizations including MOVABLE, Google, UN, World Bank, and more. He has also launched new ventures, researched, and developed new methods in the field of immersive technology. In the last 5 years, Bill has been working to lower the barrier of entry for those looking to become VR developers and/or enthusiast through the organization of monthly Virtual Reality Meetups in Akron and Cleveland Ohio. In 2017, Bill and his wife Grace founded New Territory, a company that creates virtual and augmented reality experiences for customers around the world. New Territory support companies in creating and delivering impactful content to their audience by using virtual technologies. In the evenings when they aren't developing, they provide esports events to gamers at the Bounce Innovation Hub in downtown Akron. Bill is passionate about immersive technology and how augmented/virtual reality can progress in the next several years. He is always trying to share this technology with others because he is convinced that virtual/augmented reality will radically transform our lives both at play and at work. Description of talk: As Augmented Reality (AR) becomes more mainstream, designers and marketers need to understand the power of this new medium and its implications for the future of digital storytelling. We'll start by taking a brief tour around the current scene of AR and what creation/distribution platforms are the primary contenders in this space. Creative uses for marketers, the thought process behind gamification, and covering commercial applications for the workplace will all be a focus of this presentation. Finally, we'll discuss the future of AR. We'll examine the biggest players in this space, and discuss what will pave the way for head-worn AR glasses in the near future. Key takeaways: My goal is that walks away with hands-on demos of how AR can be used for marketing purposes. Through the presentation and emos, my hope is that those at the event understand the design process involved with developing AR experiences and have a better sense of what ROI looks like using this technology. |
