This month’s Member Highlight features Glenn Hoehnen.

When did you join Rotary?

I joined Rotary in Spring 2014.

Why did you join Rotary?

I moved to Geauga County late 2013 and new I wanted to get involved in the community, meet new people, and have always enjoyed giving back and helping others. I never knew anything about Rotary, but had a friend that mentioned the organization and thought it would be worth checking out a local chapter one morning to see what I thought. I met some really great people and knew I wanted to be a part of what they were doing in Chesterland and Geauga County.

What offices have you held while in Rotary and what years if you know?

None so far.

What committees are you currently involved in and what is your role?

I have only had the opportunity to serve on the Membership Committee so far. But look forward to having an impact in the organization. I helped get the club more involved in ChesterFest this year, have worked with the Finance Committee, helped launch our presence on social media with our Facebook page, and really enjoy volunteering with the Breakfast with Santa and Lighting up the Park over at Parkside the last couple years.

What do you enjoy most about being a Rotarian?

I love being out in the community. From seeing the smiles on kids faces because the work we put in at the park and Breakfast with Santa, to ringing the bell at Giant Eagle to raise money for our community members in need; I just really love being a part of something meaningful. I have also appreciated building relationships with all the great members. Seeing everyone on Wednesday morning has become something I really look forward to as we make plans to make a difference. It's been really cool learning about other non-profit organizations and companies in and around our community.

Tell us about your career/occupation.

I have been a Registered Representative and/or Partner at New York Life for almost 10 years. I am passionate about educating individuals, families and businesses about ways to protect, accumulate and distribute their assets over their lifetime in the most risk adverse and tax efficient ways.

Any personal interesting facts you would like to share?

I am happily married to Lisa and we are proud parents of Luke (3) and Anna (1). We moved to Russell Township two years ago to live right in between our parents who live in Chesterland and Bainbridge. Nothing too interesting, but my family, friends and clients are my world, and I do what I can to make people I come into contact with smile or laugh every day.

What other community/volunteer activities are you involved in?

I have spent the past 6 years serving as a Board Member and President of NAIFA Cleveland (the local chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors). I am committed to serving there for at least 2 more years. I have volunteered my time for many local non-profit organizations, most recently on the Planning Committee for Mission 4 Maureen in putting together our inaugural Fall Ball, which raised money for families who have a loved one burdened by the emotional impacts and financial costs of brain cancer.
