This week's club meeting speaker was Skip Claypool. He gave a well-crafted power point presentation on House Bill 335 which seeks to modify the law governing county budget commissions, property taxation, county sales taxation, and alternative apportionment formulas for local government and public library funds. He focused on the issues surrounding local property taxes and the effort currently underway to change the way Ohio funds public services, such as, public education. Skip was able to condense the 180-page H.B. 335 into manageable segments making it understandable how our property taxes are levied, and which form of tax might be utilized to make funding public education constitutional and, hopefully, more affordable for property owners in the future.
