The Geauga West Rotary Club's annual golf outing at St. Denis golf course was another great day of fun and fellowship! First, a BIG THANK YOU to Bob Somrak for spearheading the event again and to each and every club member who volunteered in any way that day to make it a big success! We want to especially thank Cliff Babcock at Junction Auto Family for offering a choice of two vehicles (Buick Envista and Jeep Compass) as prizes for a hole in one! In addition, to all our business owners and individual sponsors who donated a HUGE THANK YOU!
Once again, the golf course was on excellent shape and there were three teams who tied for 1st place with a score of -13. The eventual winner was determined by our tie breaker rules to be Team Caris. Congratulations to Phil Caris, his son Michael, Brian and Aaron Kucia. Well done!
We also had a long drive pro (Trevor Scott) who was hitting drives on the #6 Par 5 hole to raise money for rotary. He was absolutely AMAZING and hit the ball farther than any human being I have ever seen!! The #6 hole is approx. 500 yards long. He hit our drive to within 20 yds. of the green! That's a ridiculous 480 yard drive!!!! Sure there was some wind behind him and yes the course was dry, but come on! That's UNBELIEVABLE!
We also had a putting contest that netted about $700 this year. This year's winner was Dan O'Connor who won $100 and the second place went to Bob Voss who won $50. Dan literally beat Bob by ½" in the putt off! As a result, Dan had a chance to sink a 50' putt for $10,000 on the # 9 green. He gave it a valiant effort but ended up missing by only a few feet. Congratulations Dan!
Overall, the weather was exceptional with sunny to partly cloudy skies all day long. While it was hot and humid, there was plenty of refreshments and food throughout the day to keep our players and volunteers hydrated and satiated!
A BIG THANK YOU also goes to Frank Arco owner of Rise-and Dine for catering the brunch and for Terry Nagy Co-Owner of Purpose Brew Works for the keg of Hoptimist IPA beer on the turn! I don't want to miss anyone who helped out that day, so a HUMONGUS THANK YOU to all our members who helped at the registration table, set up and cleaned up, grilled hot dogs and brats for golfers on the turn, drove around the drink cart all day long, were hole in one witnesses or ran closest to the pin game on #8 or sold raffle tickets! You ALL made this day a big success!
Lastly, THANK YOU to all the golfers who played!

Congratulations Team Caris!
