At our Weds. weekly Rotary club meeting, we held a 4-Way Speech Contest for four West Geauga H.S. students. The students were asked to give a 5-7 minute speech about any topic of their choosing. However, they had to apply the Rotary 4-Way Test to their subject. First, "Is it the Truth?; Second, Is it Fair to all concerned?; Third, Will it build Good will and better friendships?; Fourth, Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
The four students were competing for a chance to advance to the District 4-Way Speech Contest held at Springfield H.S on April 18th. There are about 250 Rotary Clubs in Ohio, and each club can enter at least one student. The winner and runner up then have the opportunity to give their speech at the Rotary District Conference luncheon at the Cleveland East Mariotte on Sat. April 25th.
The Contestants were Paul Barras, Aurora Pavick, Ananya Balasubramanian and current West Geauga Interact President, Ryan Berdis. After the students gave their speeches, the judges determined that Paul and Ananya would advance to compete in the District Contest! Each Student received a $25 gift card for competing and the club will pick up the $150 registration fee for the two students who are going to the district contest. Congratulations to all four students and Good Luck to Paul and Ananya!
