THE NEXT MEETING IS A TOUR OF GREAT LAKES GROWERS, LOCATED AT 15145 KINSMAN ROAD IN BURTON.  THEIR FACILITY IS JUST WEST OF SHADE TREE ON KINSMAN ROAD.  THE TOUR STARTS AT 5:30 PM WITH DINNER TO FOLLOW AT ALLEY'S AT 7:00 PM.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Middlefield, Burton, Chardon, and Chesterland Chambers of Commerce are going to be hosting a Geauga Consumer Connection on Wednesday, May 8th from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Middlefield Market Pavilion.   Middlefield Market Pavilion is located at 15848 Nauvoo Road in Middlefield.  The event is free and it showcases products and services from Geauga County.  There will also be free food, prizes, raffles, and samples as well as gift bags/coupons to the first 400 people.

All members of BMR are invited to a Nature Scopes "Binocular Blitz" Field Day to be held this May at the Rookery.  Each of the schools participating in Natrue Scopes this year will make a field trip on the following days:  Monday May 6th (Agape Christian Academy and Notre Dame Elementary), Thursday May 9th (Kenston Intermediate School), and Tuesday May 14th (Newbury and St. Helens Elementary).  The lessons will take place between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM and we are welcome to tag along as the 5th graders in these groups explore with their binoculars.  Following the field exploration there will be a lunch from 12:00 - 1:00 PM, a graduation ceremony, and a presentation of binoculars and field guides to each student.  Bring a lunch to eat with the Nature Scopes students if you wish.  If you are interested in attending a session/s, please contact Amanda Stith at 440-279-0806 or email her at astith@geaugaparkdistrict.org.

Heather Baker reported that Newbury did not have any applicants for the Rotary Scholarship but Berkshire and Cardinal do.  She has the necessary help to judge the applicants and to present at each of the schools on award night.

Jim Croup reported that the Geauga County Historical Society is seeking all current county residents who served in WWII and will be hosting a tribute dinner in the honor on Saturday evening, May 25th, at the Century Village Bond Building.  The dinner is part of weekend-long event commerating the WWII area and "The Greatest Generation."  They would like to send personal invitations to the veterans and need names and addresses to do so.  Please contact their office at 440-834-1492 or email at info@geaugahistorical.org.

Jim Dvorak said that on Tuesday, May 21st, there is a fishing event scheduled for special needs children at the Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve.  The event is being sponsored by the Geauga County Board of Education.  If you have interest in volunteering to help please see Jim.  A signup sheep was circulated at the meeting on 5/1/13.

Mike Pesek said that the press releases for the Motorcycle Run have gone out.  There were be more articles to follow in local papers.  Mike has purchased 100 yard signs (18" x 24") and will need help placing them around the county.  Also, mailers will be going out to 1600 Geauga County businesses soliciting their support.

We've got building projects coming up at Newbury High School constructing dugouts and at Berkshire High School doing some roof repairs on their press box.

The second or third week of May we will be starting our project on the caboose at the Middlefield Historical Society.

PROGRAM:  ResCare Youth Services.  Kevin Cook.  Executive Director of Youth Services.

ResCare provides a broad spectrum of educational, therapeutic, and job training to children and young people with special needs.  ResCare is currently seeking to grow their foster care network in northeast Ohio.  Already very active in foster care in southern Ohio, ResCare is looking to add 5 new foster homes in our region.  The are currently recruiting foster parents and are looking for help spreading the word and locating prospective candidates.  Kids looking to be put into foster care can range in ages from 0-21 years of age.  ResCare provides foster parent training, case managment, family counseling and therapy, substance abuse counseling, independent living skills, and other sevices as part of their foster care package.  ResCare is a private, for profit company and Kevin's office is located in Chesterland Ohio.  Kevin can be contacted at 440-477-9246 or by email at kcook@rescare.com.
