PROGRAM - PAST ROTARY PRESIDENT PRESENTATIONS

John Gander.  1958-1959 Rotary year.  Inaugurated the Football Preview Project.  Everybody paid a $1 to attend the game including players, cheerleaders, and band members.  The game was held at West Geauga and the proceeds were to help pay for health insurance for the players.  Some other projects included purchasing paint for the Rex Hosmer Memorial Library, painting a Geauga County Historical Society building, and a contribution made to the Student Drivers' Education Safety Conference.

Ralph Hurd.  1976-1977 Rotary year.  Sponsored two Berkshire students as delegates to the Council of World Affairs in Cincinnati.  Continued the club's regular plantings at Geauga Hospital.  Contributed money to the AFS chapters at West Geauga, Cardinal, Berkshire, Kenston, and Ledgemont High Schools.  Contributed $1000 to the KSU Geauga Branch.

Jack McCartney.  1979-1980 Rotary year.  Dr. Hayashi suggested doing 75 service projects to celebrate Rotary International's 75th year.  Jack liked Dr. Hayashi's idea and put him in charge of the effort!  Jack was happy to report the club was successful in completing the 75 service projects during his presidency.  The club also enjoyed a trip to Rotary's International Conference in Chicago.  Other highlights of the year included membership reaching an all-time high of 51 members.  New members included Brian Brockway and Tom Buckles.

Mike Pesek.  2004-2005 Rotary year.  Mike is the first female president of BMR.  Who can forget the Victorian Garden Cottage Project that raised over $60,000 and provided an AED to every first responder in Geauga County.  We also started our support of the Geauga County Veteran's Memorial with an $8,000 contribution to buy a stone with our name on it.  Lastly, Mike noted that 2004-2005 was Rotary's 100 year anniversary.

Tracy Jemison.  2006-2007 Rotary year.  Some highlights included our 1st Car Show and Motorcycle Run, the completion of the Red Simmons Memorial, contributing $3000 to Katrina disaster relief efforts through Habitat for Humanity, and BMR being awarded the Emerald Leadership Award for non-profits by Leadership Geauga.  Bob Johnson was the Rotarian of the Year.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The 2010 Changeover Banquet/Picnic is going to be Wednesday, June 30 at Pineview Lake (10036 Wilson Mills Road, Munson) with cocktails be served at 6:00 PM and dinner to follow at 7:00 PM.  The meal will include hamburgers and hot dogs, asian stir fry, ham fried rice, corn on the cob, rigatoni with meatballs, potato salad, baked beans, green salad, fruit salad, and dessert. 

Help is still needed at the new ReStore facility in Newbury. 

Relay For Life of Chardon is having a golf outing Sunday, July 4th at Rolling Green Golf Club.  The entry fee is $260 per team, or $65 per golfer.  The event includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, breakfast, lunch, prizes, and beverages.  The tournament is a scramble.  Hole sponsorship opportunities are also available.  Please contact Gene Chapman at 440-667-3146 or rflchardon@yahoo.com with any questions.  The deadline for registration is June 28.

The Chardon Chamber of Commerce is having their 1st Annual Classic Car Show and Motorcycle Show Sunday July 11.  The event will be held on Chardon Square from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM with a rain date scheduled for July 18.  Register a car or motorcycle by July 1st for $10 or $12 the day of the show.  Call 440-285-9050 for more details.

The Cleveland Club is hosting a Tall Ships Festival July 7-11.  They need 500 volunteers to man the event.  A volunteer application was passed out at the meeting.

During the Tall Ships Festival, a Christmas in July celebration will be held on Friday, July 9 at the Port of Cleveland.  The event is to benefit the Rotary Foundation.  There will be a raffle with a $2000 prize, a silent and live auction, and a dinner.  Tickets are $50 each.  Please contact margie Roop at 330-329-3767 for more details.

The Cleveland Indians and Rotary 6 630 have partenered to set up a discounted ticket, 2 hour dinner buffet, a pre-game parade, and a post game fireworks show for all attendees to the Cleveland Indians game on Friday, August 13, 2010 against the Seattle Mariners at 7:05 PM at Progressive Field.  The dinner buffet starts at 6:00 PM.  Ticket prices are as follows:

Adult ticket with meal:  $30.  Adult ticket alone:  $13.  Adult meal alone:  $20.

Children ticket with meal:  $25.  Children ticket alone:  $13.  Children meal alone:  $13.
