PROGRAM:  Care for Others

Care for Others provides financial assistance to individuals who are working or on fixed incomes.  They help with things like mortgage payments, utility bills, car and home repairs, home modifications, medical expenses, etc.  Federal poverty standards are based on 1950s era calculations and define poverty to be $23,500 for a family.  Care for Others argues that self sufficiency standards are a better measure of poverty and they define the poverty level to be $53,000 for a family of 4.  Care for Others seeks to help with the difference between the federal poverty standards and the self sufficiency standards for qualified applicants.  Most of the organization's funding comes from donations.  They are located in Newbury, Ohio.
