PROGRAM:  Bob Johnson.  The Rotary Foundation.

This month is Rotary Foundation Month.  The Rotary Foundation was started in the 1920s and currently is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.  The Foundation is where we get matching grants for many of our projects.  Some of the things Foundation money funds include:

1)  Polio vaccinations.  Rotary has almost single-handely just about eradicated polio.  The only places polio exists today are places Rotary volunteers delivering the vaccines can't reach.

2)  Group Study Exchanges.

3)  Ambassadorial Scholars.

4)  District Simplified Grants.  We have used these grants for projects like the Pleasant Hill Home and the Bookmobile.  We plan on using this grant structure to purchase a K9 dog for the Sheriff's Department as well.

5)  Matching Grants.  Over $335 million has been spent on 29,000 matching grants in 199 countries since 1965.

The ability of the Rotary Foundation to make a positive difference in the world is great.  One way we help to fund the Foundation is through Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY).  EREY money stays in the Foundation for 3 years, earns interest for the Foundation, and then comes back to our district in the way of grants, etc.
