PROGRAM - Airplane trek through the western US. Tom Buckles
Tom Buckles gave an excellent program and photojournal of his 4 week airplane trip though the western USA. In spring of 2008, Tom took his 1947 Stinson Voyager, on a meandering trek first through the south central and southwestern states, turning north along the west coast and returning home along the northern states. Approximately 6000 miles total.
Tom flew 3 hours each morning and afternoon, weather permitting. The plane cruised at about 100 mph. He flew primarily between small non-towered local airports. He would spend the evenings in local hotels or with family and friends along the way.
Tom got some spectacular pictures of the terrain (rivers, deserts, mountains, canyons) from the plane and on the ground. Sites on the ground were also explored along the way. Tom made many new friends on the trip. He spent one day taking a motorcycle tour on the back of a new found friends bike.
What a great adventure. Thanks for sharing Tom.
