Several members of the Ashtabula Rotary Club experienced a positive start to the day by attending the Friday, August 5th 'Recovery Breakfast' hosted by Community Counseling Center. CCC is a non-profit behavioral health provider focused on engaging the community in recovery by utilizing evidence-based practices, offering integrated health care solutions, and seeking to broaden community access to treatment. Its CEO is Paul Bolino, a fellow club Rotarian.

Ginger Yanchar, LISW-S, spoke about Supported Employment/Individual Placement and Support Services (SE/IPS). SE/IPS is an evidence-based practice that helps adults who are recovering from mental illness to explore and succeed at work as part of their mental health recovery. This population of adults may also be at risk of inpatient hospitalization, be involved with the criminal justice system or have a criminal history, possess a co-existing mental health and drug/alcohol diagnosis, or be a young adult transitioning from the juvenile to the adult system and requires support to successfully enter into the world of work. Evidence shows that people with mental illness are more likely to find jobs sooner and keeps jobs longer, as well as work more hours and make more money, if helped by a supported employment program.

The program included a guest speaker, a young man who struggled with depression following the loss of his father. His depression led to unemployment, financial hardships, social isolation, and strained relationships. Through SE/IPS, this gentleman is now gainfully employed, has strong friendships, and has set a goal of returning to school to pursue a career in pediatric nursing. To learn more about SE/IPS, contact Ginger Yanchar, Clinical Supervisor/Supported Employment at Community Counseling Center, 2801 'C' Court, Ashtabula OH by calling (440) 990-3419 or sending an email to supported.employment@cccohio.com.
