Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds - Wayne Jenkins
After a year of very little action, 2022 is set to be a busy year with lots of projects to get our members back where we belong - making a difference in our community! Tonight we will hear about one of these projects, the Rotary Overseas Relocated Playgrounds (RORP).
District 9820 RORP Project Coordinator, Wayne Jenkins, will be presenting on this wonderful project. RORP finds surplus playground equipment and works with councils and private industry to ensure it can be labeled, carefully decommissioned, audited and sent to partner overseas Rotary clubs for a further assessment and installation in communities without access to safe playgrounds.
In the near future the City of Casey will be renewing several playgrounds across our Council and guess who's project director said her club can help... yep, yours!!! Jen Marshall has invited Wayne to explain how the project works so that the Rotary Club of Berwick can assist Wayne with the dismantling of the redundant playgrounds to be sent overseas.
We will also be joined by some surprise guests who have previously been involved in RORP projects.
So join us to hear about a project that brings joy to children overseas, reduces waste going to landfill and gets Rotarians back working in the community.
Tonight we will also be supporting Australian Rotary Health's Lift The Lid On Mental Illness so be sure to wear a hat - the crazier the better. A $5 donation per hat is recommended or $10 if you want to go hatless! Check out this week's Spoke n Word for more details.
