What is W.I.N.

Our student guest today Grace Heggem from S.H.S. announcements consisted mostly of President Knutson thanking those who participated in the Monument marathon and those are have signed up to participate in the United Way ‘Day of Caring”.  Our program today is Darla Heggem, who is a representative for the University of Nebraska Foundation Rural Future Institute. Today she is speaking of the W.I.N. program sponsored by the University of Nebraska. W.I.N. is an acronym for Women Investing in Nebraska. Members are women who have 51% of their finances or personal income and are looking for a different kind of involvement in nonprofits including the university. The program awards grants to elected entities every year and has done so since 2012. There are three tiers of membership; Platinum members pay dues of $2400, Gold pay $1200 and Silver pay $500. The dues are then awarded as grants to an organization voted on by the members. Members help bring in new members and host events to bring in new members. Last year’s recipient was S.I.M. Nebraska.  S.I.M. stands for Simulation in motion. This program was initially a grant for the Helmsley Foundation, which provided four trucks, four patient simulation mannequins per truck, new equipment and infrastructure and administration. These trucks go to rural Nebraska communities and provide advanced training for E.N.T.’s and trauma departments of rural hospitals. The training is free. There are a number of partnering organizations, one being W.I.N.
