What and When is WyoBraska GIVES

Today we heard from Becky Horne, fund and Membership Coordinator for the Oregon Trail Foundation and Organizer for the upcoming WyoBraska GIVES day. First we welcome our student guests. Katherine Phillips, daughter of member Scott Phillips, is a senior at Scottsbluff High and is thinking about attending Nebraska Wesleyan University, Hoping to play golf for them and majoring in Communications or Sports Management.  Morgan Maser attends Gering High School and plans on attending U.N.L. with the ultimate goal of studying Medicine.  It was announced that the Rotary Christmas Party will be Tuesday, December 11 at the Gering Civic Center, save the date. Our program is all but the upcoming WyoBraska GIVES day. Mrs. Horne believes that we rise by giving to others and there is no better feeling than giving to those who cannot give back. It was with these thoughts in mind that prompted her to organize WoBraska GIVES. She was checking her children’s Twitter account and came across a trending item from Omaha. In a single day, the city of Omaha donated over 200,000.00 to the non-profit organizations in the city. As she investigated, she became excited and realized that our area needed a giving day. Bringing the idea to the organization she works for, Oregon Trails Foundation, she sold them on the idea. For one day anyone can donate from $10.00 on up to a nonprofit participating. Building interest in the project attracted other sponsoring organizations, Holliday Family of Companies, and United Way of Western Nebraska. Donating to the web page allows 100% of your donation to go to the nonprofit you select. It also allows you to volunteer for the nonprofit, or give in memorial of a loved one. Mrs. Horne gave a statistic that only 15% of businesses are asked to contribute to nonprofits. This allow people not asked to get involved.  She encouraged everyone to check out the WyoBraska GIVES page and donate on Tuesday, November 11th.
