Rwanda Interns

We had an interesting program today. Currently the Panhandle Research and Extension Center is hosting eight interns from Uganda. Jeff Bradshaw is leading the program and spoke to the club about it.  For the next three months, these eight young people, out of 56 in the program, are here to learn about agriculture and bring their new found knowledge back to help their country develop. The goal is to move the majority of the populace to middle income by the year 2020. These students are interested in plant pathology, irrigation systems, mechanized agriculture systems and machinery, and plant breeding. They are attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln on a three year program and will obtain their bachelor’s degree. Of the 56 who are beginning this year, the applicant pool began at over 2000. To promote understanding and to give the interns a connection to the community, host families are assigned to the students. The students are living in the dorms at N.W.C.C.  Some of the families were in attendance, including our own president Zac Karpf.
