Gering School Bond

On this, our last meeting of February, we are honored to have three student guests. Andrea Belegrin is a senior at S.H.S. and wants to become a Neurosurgeon. From G.H.S. we have Tanner Walker, who plans to study business and become a stock broker, and Allison Wilson who will attend Nebraska Wesleyan and then go on to Medical school. Our district assistant district governor, Nancy Hobbs, was in attendance and made a couple of district announcements. Rotary International is re-zoning. Good news is our district remains the same. New grants are available. There is a document the district is working on which may be of interest to our club, it is a road map to becoming a satellite. Announcements included the need to R.S.V.P. for the upcoming Rotary Gold event which is tis Saturday night at the Gering Civic Center. Also thanks to Shelley Knutson and Jeff West for attending the P.E.T.S. seminar for incoming presidents. Our program today was George Schlothauer and Bob Hastings on the upcoming Gering High School bond issue. The current school building is 51 years old and the electrical and heating system is out of date. On the ballet is a $24 million bond proposal to upgrade the building. It will allow space to move the freshman to the facility, increase the security of the building with one main entrance, and improve the systems to ensure the future of the building. An improvement for the school benefits the entire area as it is one of the first items those moving to the area look at. The timing is right for bond financing.  Support this issue, now is the time.
