Racing for an ALS cure at Goddard Park, Easter Activities around town, and more.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue with the best bets for how to spend your free time. Check out our picks for the local activities to hit and places to explore.

1. THE SCOTT CARLSON MEMORIAL EG ROTARY ALS 5K RUN/WALK

Join over 600 racers and walkers as they participate in the 11th anniversary of the event that has become the single biggest fundraiser for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association, Rhode Island Chapter.

The East Greenwich Rotary initiated the race for the worthy cause because Carlson, who had ALS, was the son-in-law of a Rotarian. Carlson wanted to do something lasting to help others with the disease and he guided the race until he died at the age of 39 in 2003. The Rotary Club has continued to hold the race in Carlson’s memory and for other club members whose families have been affected by ALS.
