E-Waste Collection - Wet but Very Successful
E-Waste Recycling & Paper Shredding Recap by numbers:

50 Volunteers
429 Vehicles
2 Truckloads of Electronic Waste
10,000 lbs of Paper Shredded
12 Boxes of Canned Goods (Donated to Operation Stand Down)

Regardless of the rain these are tremendous numbers! Cash donations and sponsorship funds are to be distributed to the Interfaith Food Cupboard at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Additional funds are given organizations and agencies that our charitable fund supports each year.

Welcome to our newest members, Beverly Fairbanks of Centreville Bank (2nd from left) and Lisa Carroll of Remax (3rd from left).  They were inducted at our meeting on April 10th and are flanked in the picture by their Rotary sponsors Alicia Martinelli and Dave Iannuccilli.
Thank you Bob Miller for over 50 years of dedicated service. The community appreciates your hard work and dedication and our club wouldn't be the same without you!  Bob (L) was recognized for 54 years of Rotary service by District Governor Angela Ponte (C) and E.G. Club President Bill Ten Eyck (R).

 

Robert Houghtaling Scholarship Announced
 

The East Greenwich Rotary Scholarship Fund has announced the establishment of an EG High School scholarship in memory of Bob Houghtaling and in honor of his 40+ years of service to the youth and adults of East Greenwich.  Rotary will match (up to $10,000) donations received from the community. According to board president David Iannuccilli, “Our intention is to establish an endowed scholarship of at least $1,000 annually. Bob, a former Rotarian and frequent speaker at our meetings, was a hero to this town. He didn’t wear a cape, couldn’t fly and didn’t have X-ray vision, but we can’t begin to imagine the countless citizens he has impacted with his insightful wisdom, compassion and counsel.”

¨ Maria Bianco - 2023 EG Rotary Scholarship ($1,000/year for 4 years)
St. Anselm College; Pre-Med track; involved with community-based clubs; research project with professor,
challenging and exciting.
 
¨ Allison Butterfield - 2023 EG Rotary Scholarship ($1,000/year for 4 years)
Univ. of New Hampshire; Major in Nursing, minor in Spanish; involved in community service, especially interested
in dog shelters.
 
¨ Dorothea Bianco - Irving Silverman Community Service ($1,000)
St. Andrew College; Environmental Studies; “Respect the Nest"; Interested in activities involving mental health
awareness: Community Service to Middle Schools.
 
¨ Annalee Ambler - Howard D. Silverman Scholarship ($1,000)
Freshman at UC Berkeley; Major in Music, minor in Korean; Working at radio station, learning production.

Freshman at RI College; Elementary Education, concentration in Science; Foundation of Education, had to observe
classrooms; Trying to start dance group.

Senior at Dartmouth; Summer intern at Naval War College; Working on thesis project: Gender and Nuclear
Weapons; belongs to Acappella Group; works at library with archival books.
 
¨ Jessica Imbriglio - 2020 EG Rotary Scholarship ($1,000 for 1 more year)
Senior at Adelphia Univ; Major in Nursing, minor in Spanish; Clinical Service at pediatric & infant hospital, assisted
with deliveries; In high school started group “Students 4 Students” that collects gently used items, still oversees
operation.

Junior at Univ South Carolina; Majoring in Sports Management; Interested in player development.
 
¨ Rebecca McCrystal - 2020 EG Rotary Scholarship ($1,000 for next 3 years)
Sophomore at Salve Regina; Major in Special Education/Elementary school; Volunteers at Pell Elementary in
Newport; Tutor/mentors a 4th grader; Involved with “Best Buddies” spending time with individuals with
developmental challenges.
 
¨ Yehya Kader - 2020 EG Rotary Scholarship ($1,000 for next 3 years)
Sophomore at Indiana University, majoring in Supply Chain Management; Interning at GE Aerospace in the
summer 2024; Community Service of Rotaract.
  
¨ Alexander Bard - Erickson Scouting Award (Boy Scouts) ($2.000)
Attending Savanah College of Art & Design; Will graduate in 3 years with a degree in TV/Film; Still involved with
his Scout Troup; Sits on board of review for younger Scouts.
 
¨ Cameron Boyd - Erickson Scouting Award (Boy Scouts) ($2.000)
Taking a gap year before attending univ. Hartford to study Music Production Technology; going to CCRI; Works
with events company; Assistant Scout Master to his Scout Troup.
 
¨ Aliya Land - Robert Miller Award For Community Service($1,500)
Univ. of Miami; Taking variety of business courses to decide which area to concentrate in; Member of a Women in
Business club, where she’s met some amazing women; Also participates in “Kings Fight Cancer.
 
¨ Mia Shenga - Essex Award ($1,000)
Freshman at Harvard; Pre-Med track, Neuro-Science; Also majoring in Music; worked in the lab at Boston
Children’s Hospital in Pediatrics.
 
¨ Ben Lawton - Rocky Hill Country Day School Rotary Scholarship ($1,000)
Freshman at Nichols College studying Criminal Justice; Favorite class: intro to Criminal Justice; Working on getting
EMT certificate so he can become a First Responder.
  
Club Donates Back-to-School Supplies
  The club raised $457.00, through Happy Bucks and other donations.  Club Secretary Kathy McMahon volunteered to shop for items on the list we received from the EG School District, via Rotarian Malea Petrarca of Navigant, a sponsor of the drive.

2023 Scholarship Winners Attend Meeting 

At our June 28th meeting, the President of our Scholarship Fund, Dave Iannuccilli, introduced the 14 recent high school graduates who will be receiving a record $21,500 in college scholarships, ranging from $500 to $4,000. Some were based on academics, writing, music, or (boy or girl) scouting history, and ALL required the students to have shown active participation in community service.
