Club President Dave Brown presents Rotary mug to Gary in appreciation of his entertaining and very informative presentation.

Highlights: The American Red Cross mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The international organization was started by Swiss businessman Henry Dunant in 1828. The Red Cross symbol represents the Swiss flag and its motto “protection for all”. Some facts: The organization blood drives supply 40% of the blood reserves, there is financial and housing support for the military including veterans, research on sickle cell anemia, equipment and food for disaster victims, disaster training for volunteers and free smoke alarms with installation available by request.
He discussed how to be pro-active with preparedness in case of fire since there are only 2 minutes before being overcome by smoke.  Practice with a drill and have an escape plan with a meeting place outside. Test the smoke alarms monthly. Have a plan for pets. Check batteries and emergency kits. He distributed literature for pet safety and a home fire escape plan. He also gave out prizes to 3 club members.
