Ready to Grow your Business? Get Social with Deborah Smith

There’s no doubt that one of the keys to growing a business, no matter what the size, is to have a active and relevant social media presence. On Friday March 28th the Club heard and informative presentation from one of the area’s thought leaders on social media for business, Ms. Deborah Smith.

Long before the dawn of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Google +, there were message boards, chat rooms and email groups. In 1998, Deborah used these ancestors of social media to launch her first business, which included owning and operating several websites serving the nanny industry.

In 2007, Deborah launched what is now Jersey Bites, a popular collaborative blog that features restaurant reviews, recipe sharing, and food-related events throughout New Jersey. She soon began using Twitter and Facebook to build a following for Jersey Bites, which now has more than 11,000 combined followers and fans. Jersey Bites welcomes over 25,000 unique viewers every month and is now a content partner with NJ.com.

During her presentation, Deb walked club members though how to advertise on Facebook, best practices for building your campaign and also an overview of LinkedIn company pages.

Deborah is a sought-after social media consultant, strategist, marketer, trainer, coach and public speaker. She uses lessons learned from her own personal experience, as well as the latest social media educational training, to help businesses and organizations harness the power of social media, from the very basics to the most advanced social strategies.  For more information on her business, please contact her at http://deborahlsmith.com

Club Food Drive Gets a Big Hand from Shore Regional High School

On Friday March 28th, Rotary Club of Long Branch members went to Shore Regional High School where they picked up over 2500 items of canned goods and other non-perishables, designed to feed the needy of our area. As part of the school’s “battle of the classes” where classes competed to see who could bring in the most food, the donations amounted to some of the largest on record and took four carloads to carry it all. The food will now be organized and distributed to food pantries and churches in our area in the coming week. The Club would like to extend a huge thank you to the kids, staff and administration at Shore Regional for working so hard on this very important project.

3rd Annual Rotary Club of Greater Long Branch Art Show

The Club’s 3rd Annual Art Show will be held on Thursday, April 10th at the fabulous Deal Country Club.

The evening will feature curated original artwork for sale from some of the Shore area’s finest artists, wine and beer tastings, and a light dinner. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the legendary band “Pam McCoy and Familiar Faces.”

A portion of the evenings’ proceeds will be donated to the Karen Hansen Memorial Scholarship Fund. Individuals who have an interest in pursuing a career in Special Education will have the opportunity to apply for an award from this Scholarship Fund. The Fund has been established in the memory of Karen Hansen, who passed away in September of 2012, and the wife of long time Rotarian and Club Service Chair, Roger Hansen.  Over the course of her 40-year teaching career, Karen dedicated her life to Special Education and making a profound difference in the lives of many young students. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door.
