President Brian asked that board members come early to the July 18th meeting to meet with District Governor Harriet Primack. 

Brian also outlined his agenda for 2014-15: 

 

Make the name change official to Rotary Club of Greater Long Branch 

Ensure new membership is a major club initiative 

Increase Outreach to the community, including the mayors 

Set up the calendar for the year in advance, to help with planning and committee organization 

Keep members informed 

Continue the tradition of having members speak at Rotary meetings. 

 

Roger spoke about the Clam Bake. A food vendor had not yet been decided upon. Ask members to go to the big cartel website to buy tickets but roger also had paper tickets. 

 

Who Loves ya Long Branch? It’s Furnished with Love!

THE CITY of Long Branch has many great civic and community outreach organizations. Many organizations that spend their time volunteering to do great things for those less fortunate right here at home.

 

Furnished With Love is one of those organizations. Furnished With Love is a used retail furniture store located right on Broadway,that caters to the working poor and needy. It has an assortment of good used furniture at reasonable prices. Not only does Furnished with Love accept donations of furniture, it also donates furniture to those in need. In 2012, $20,383.00 worth of free furniture was distributed throughout Monmouth County, much of it here in Long Branch.

 

Last Friday, the club heard an informative presentation from Carolyn Eyerman, Executive Director, of Love, Inc., which is the parent organization of Furnished With Love. Love Inc., provides local residents with everything from crises assistance, to helping them stave off eviction, transportation assistance and much more. Love Inc. is associated with 138 churches and 34 agencies here in Monmouth County. For information on how to donate or get involved, visit them online at www.loveinc.org

 

Running for Fisher House

Supporting Fisher House: Rotarian Lt Col William Spence talks about his fundraising efforts for Fisher House by running the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon. ​

The Club would like to recognize and congratulate our own Sergeant-at-Arms, who is actually a Lt. Colonel -  Bill Spence. For the 2nd consecutive year, Bill is running the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C., this year for Fisher House. Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.

 

These homes are located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $235 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.

The Rotary Club of Long Branch invites one and all to join us for the Annual Clam Bake.
