I announced the May 3rd charter night dinner for District 7500 eclub

The District Assembly is coming up May 11th. I tried to encourage anyone who is a board member to attend with me. I might have guilted Brian into it and I'm coming after you next Chevy.

I mentioned that there are no RYLA applicants as of yet. RYLA is held every year at Monmouth University and Rotarians are encouraged to come and visit or more importantly volunteer to help. I mentioned how it's a shame that there isn't a Rotaract at our local University that hosts RYLA.

I spoke about the art show and how important it is for our club members to support the few fundraisers we do every year.

Joe Gigas was our guest and spoke about the new challenges he faces for the NJ Marathon after the bombings in Massachusetts. He coordinates the race through eight different municipalities and to provide extra security out of pocket for such an extensive race could prohibit the race from continuing in the future. This race is a full time job for Joe who often works seven days a week in order to make it a success as the largest marathon in NJ.

On a more positive note some race participants use the NJ Marathon as a vehicle to raise one and a half million dollars towards charities. Joe mentioned how essential Ted Friedli has been in helping staff the race with his volunteers from Kick Cancer Overboard. Ted spoke about how Kick Cancer Overboard has given (and continues to give) some outstanding memories and much needed vacation time to families who have a terminally ill family member.
