The Rotary Club of Greater Long Branch held it’s annual President and officer installation dinner Saturday, 6/23 at Rodeio Grill on Oceanport Ave. The 2018-2019 board of directors are: President Walter Thistlewaite, president-elect Gordon Heggie, secretary Ken Gittell, treasurer Judy Syms, past president Luciana Silva, new member co-trainer Paul Peacock, and service projects chair Mika Hon.
2017-2018 President Luciana Silva had a great year. Some of the highlights are: food drives for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays that fed over 300 families each, food collection for local pantries, assisted Kick Cancer Overboard at the NJ Marathon to raise money to help cancer victims and their families, raised money to help Long Branch Citizen’s Police Academy, worked together with the BR Help Center on a Garage Free that helped 80 families, raised money and packed meals for Rise Against Hunger to feed people in disaster areas of the world, held a dinner for the LB Department of Public Works to honor employees contribution to Long Branch, awarded two $3,000 scholarships to Long Branch HS and Shore Regional HS students, donated and helped plant 20 maple trees and 10 azalea bushes to Long Branch, awarded $8,000 in scholarships to Brookdale Community College (8 $500 scholarships each for trade school and students returning to further their education).
The club is looking forward to another great year of service to our community.
The club invites you to attend our next meeting, which will be held Friday, June 29 at noon at Rooney’s in Long Branch. The speaker will be Joelle Aponte from 180 Turning Lives Around, dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence in our community.
