If you are a Rotarian who likes to eat, then Operation Pollination is right for you. If you are a Rotarian who likes to work on projects that aren’t too complicated, that don’t cost too much money, that produce results, that can get you good publicity, then Operation Pollination is right for you. And, if you are a Rotarian who wants to help protect the planet for your children and grandchildren, then Operation Pollination is definitely right for you! So, if you haven't signed up already, what’s holding you back? What’s stopping you from engaging in this simple, 7th Area of Focus environmental "framework" that takes just a few minutes to sign up for?
58 Rotary District Governors around the world have done just that...signed an Operation Pollination Pollinator Resolution...including District 5950 (twice!). But signing a Pollinator Resolution is just the beginning. Signing a Pollinator Resolution by our D5950 District Governors (both PDG Lloyd and DG Jewelie) simply recognizes the fact that: 1) pollinators are essential for life on Earth and they are declining, and 2) Rotary International is a community service organization that is well positioned to help address this critical environmental issue.
Now it's your turn to make a difference. We ask that YOU...as Rotary Members encouraging and supporting your Club President (to represent you)...sign an Operation Pollination Pollinator Pledge (found at https://esrag.org/pollinators, scroll to Operation Pollination). What you pledge to do is totally up to you. There is no prescription. It all depends on your level of interest, capability, and capacity. But...everyone can do something...whether that's "not" mowing your lawn in May (for "No Mow May"), planting a few seeds, educating kids about pollinators, planting a garden, or many other ideas.
Operation Pollination is an official ESRAG initiative; ESRAG is the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group. In addition to those 58 District Governors (mentioned above) who have signed, so have Past RI President Jennifer Jones and current RI President Gordon McInally (three times!!!). Operation Pollination is an environmental framework supported at the highest levels of Rotary International for being "an inclusive project that is an innovative, science-based initiative that knows no borders.”
